The Obvious Truth

Sunset Shimmer had been putting off telling her friends about her relationship with Adagio Dazzle for a few months now. She couldn’t help but worry that they would look down on her for dating their former enemy, and she didn’t want to have to chose between her girlfriend and her friends. She knew that it was not fair to Adagio or her friends to keep the relationship a secret anymore, so she began to build up enough courage to finally tell them.

As Sunset Shimmer and Adagio Dazzle lay in bed, Sunset wraps her arms protectively around her girlfriend while Adagio snuggled up to her. Adagio’s hair was let loose from its usual ponytail and her thick curly hair could practically be used as a blanket. She had on a baggy white T-shirt and grey plaid pants. She rested her head on Sunset’s chest as she allowed herself to drift off to sleep in her girlfriend’s arms.

Sunset Shimmer rested her head back upon the pillows in the bed as she kept Adagio close. Sunset had on a black vest pyjama shirt along with red plaid pants. Her fiery hair looked somewhat brown in the darkness of the night, the only light that illuminated the dark bedroom was the faint glow of the moon that seeped in through the cracks in the blinds.

There was no sound whatsoever in the room, other than the steady breaths of the two girls as they lay peacefully, melting into each others warm embrace.

It had taken Sunset a while to go to sleep, she was worried about the following day, as tomorrow, she would be telling her friends about her relationship with Adagio Dazzle. She thought about what she would say but nothing useful came to mind.

Hey, remember the leader of the sirens that tried to take over the world and almost killed us in the process? Yeah, that’s my girlfriend.’

Sunset sighed and allowed herself to fall deeper into blankets and pillows bellow her. She listened to her girlfriend’s steady breaths as she looked down at her. Adagio looked so peaceful right now. Even with no makeup on and her hair a mess, she still looked stunning and absolutely adorable. Sunset smiled warmly before leaning her head back upon the pillows and closing her eyes slowly, allowing sleep to claim her.

The morning sun peaked in through the blinds as the birds chirped their usual song outside. Sunset blinked her eyes open sleepily and looked down to Adagio, who was still sleeping peacefully and nuzzling against to her. Sunset chuckled softly as she ran a hand through her partner’s hair gently. She slowly tuned her head and picked up her phone with her free hand to check the time. 10:30. Sunset sighed and placed her phone gently back on the bedside table next to her and then turned her attention back to the sleeping former siren in her arms.

“Dagi, we slept in again…wanna get up?” Sunset asked in a soft tone as she continued to run her fingers through Adagio’s soft curly hair. Adagio began to stir slightly as she blinked her eyes open, looking up to Sunset.

“Mmm…okay. Good morning, dear.” Adagio answered, her expression still one of sleepiness, making her look even cuter. Sunset giggled softly as a faint red tint appeared on her cheeks.

“How’d you sleep?” Sunset asked, her hand still caressing Adagio’s hair.

Adagio nodded and leaned her head back onto Sunset’s chest and began to fiddle with the necklace she wore. “Good, how about you?”

“I couldn’t sleep for quite a few hours after you, I’m just worried about today.” Sunset said as she watched Adagio twirl her necklace around her fingers.

“You know, you don’t have to tell them today, I’m alright waiting a little while longer.”

“No, I have to tell them today. It’s not fair to keep you hidden any longer.

Adagio nodded softly. “Okay…just don’t feel obligated to.” Adagio said as she turned her gaze to her girlfriend, smiling slightly.

Sunset smiled back and nodded. “Thank you.” Sunset checked her phone again.10:35. “We really should get up now, we agreed to meet at half twelve.” Sunset said, sitting up slightly.

Adagio nodded and pulled herself up off her girlfriend. She stepped off the bed and began stretching her arms over her head, making her shirt appear tighter. Sunset watched her girlfriend intensely…well…a part of her girlfriend.

Once Adagio finished stretching, she looked over to her girlfriend and placed a hand on her hip, chuckling softly. “Eyes up here, sweetheart~” Adagio said, gesturing up to her eyes. Sunset blinked a few times and met Adagio’s gaze before her partner walked into the bathroom.

Sunset sighed and lifted herself off the bed and walked over to her closet. She skimmed over it, looking for something appropriate for the day. She soon decided on a white low neckline T-shirt. She then pulled out her usual black leather jacket with a bright orange stripe across the arms and her matching boots. To finish it off, she took out some black jeans with white stitching across the pockets.

Sunset could hear the shower turn on along with a cute hum of a song. Once Adagio had become friends with the Rainbooms, Sunset had helped Adagio regain her singing voice. Granted, it couldn’t manipulate the minds of anyone anymore, for obvious reasons, but it was still the most angelic voice Sunset had ever heard.

About thirty minutes later, Adagio walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her. She held it up under her arms as she walked over to her own closet to pick out her outfit. Sunset couldn’t help but admire Adagio as she searched through her wardrobe, a blush beginning to present itself proudly on her face.

After a few moments, Adagio picked up a purple sleeveless top from a hanger that matched perfectly with her purple high heels, along with a yellow belt with a diamond of the front and black flared leggings.

As Adagio turned around, Sunset quickly forced her gaze to anything but Adagio, hoping she couldn’t see the prominent blush on her face. Adagio chuckled softly.

“You can admire me later, my love~ For now, let’s just get ready.” Adagio said in a teasing tone. Sunset simply nodded and walked into the bathroom.

As Adagio got dressed in the room opposite the one Sunset was currently in, she couldn’t help but feel a little nervous for today too. She didn’t let Sunset see it but she was also worried about how Sunset’s friends would react. But she put on a brave face to help Sunset overcome her worries.

The two girls had gotten ready and were now heading towards the coffee shop they agreed to meet at. As they walked Adagio admired the scenery with a content smile while Sunset watched the ground. Adagio turned her gaze to look at Sunset, placing a tentative hand on her girlfriend’s shoulder.

“Hey, it’s going to be okay. They are going to be fine with it, alright?” Adagio reassured Sunset in a comforting tone as she took Sunset’s hand in her own and interlocked their fingers together as they walked. Sunset let out a ragged sigh, then nodded, and smiled to her girlfriend.

“Thank you, Dagi.”

As the two girls came closer and closer to the coffee shop of which they would be meeting the Rainbooms in, Sunset’s heart rate spiked. She didn’t know why she was so scared to tell them…I mean, yes they are her friends and would most likely support her through almost anything, but then again…what if they thought of Sunset differently after finding out she was dating their former enemy?

The two girls stopped in front of the coffee shop for a moment, both taking a deep breath before pushing the door open and hesitantly walking inside. Sunset looked around for a moment, quickly scanning over the shop to see if her friends had already arrived. After a few moments of looking, her eyes fixated on a table with six girls sitting there, laughing. Sunset took another deep breath before taking Adagio’s hand in hers once again.

“It’s alright, they’re going to be okay with it…I know it.” Adagio reassured Sunset again, returning Sunset’s soft grip on her hand. Sunset nodded and took the first hesitant step towards the table of girls, slowly walking over. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest as the moment she had been dreading for weeks came closer.

Pinkie Pie was the first to notice both Adagio and Sunset walking towards the table, and…Pinkie being Pinkie, she kneeled on the back of her seat and waved to the two girls as they came closer to the table.

“Sunset! Adagio! Over here!!!” She yelled, making the rest of the group turn around. Sunset stopped in her tracks for a moment, and so did Adagio. Pinkie Pie didn’t seem angry or confused that Adagio was with Sunset, if anything, she seemed…happy?

Adagio and Sunset soon came closer to the table, and were both met with five sets of wide eyes. As the six girls met Adagio’s and Sunset’s gaze, a mix of confusion and uncertainty took over their expressions. Rainbow Dash nearly choked on the chip she was currently eating and AppleJack quickly tapped her back harshly, helping her to breath again. Rairty and Fluttershy simply sat there, frozen as they saw the two girls holding hands and standing before them, and Twilight put down the book she was currently reading, clearly in disbelief of what she was seeing.

“Hey guys…” Sunset said quietly, slowly bringing her hand up to wave weakly.

“What on earth are you doing here with…her?!” Rarity asked, gesturing towards Adagio. Adagio turns her gaze to the ground for a moment and bit her lip, clearly fighting off some kind of emotion.

“Well…that’s kind of the reason I wanted to meet up.” Sunset began. “So, basically-“

“You and Adagio have been dating for a while now but you only just got the courage to come and tell us because you were worried that we would think differently of you for dating someone who tried to wreck the world apart for her own benefits but you’ve finally had enough of hiding her so you called us here to let us know!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed almost too fast for it to be understandable.

The whole group fell silent and we’re all now staring at Pinkie Pie with wide eyes. Both Adagio and Sunset shared a confused glance as their mouths gaped.

“H…how did you know that?” Sunset asked, hesitantly taking another step towards the table.

“Eh…just a hunch.” Pinkie replied, shrugging her shoulders and taking another sip of her chocolate milkshake.

“Wait a minute…you…and Adagio…are going out?” Rainbow asked, breaking the momentary silence. Sunset smiled sheepishly and nodded slowly.

“Yeah…I didn’t want to tell you because I was worried you would-“

“Oh this is so cute!” Sunset was cut off by Rarity almost tackling her to the ground in a hug and bopping up and down as she held Sunset.

“Woah! W-wait…what?” Sunset stammered, barely keeping her balance as Rarity jumped up and down in excitement.

“Awhhh! This is adorable!” Fluttershy stated, standing up from her seat and taking a step towards the two girls.

“S-so…you aren’t…mad?” Sunset asked in disbelief as Rarity pulled away from the tight embrace she was giving Sunset.

“Hey would we be mad?” AppleJack asked in her usual quiet and soft tone, walking over to Sunset.

“W-well…uhm…” Sunset stuttered as she tried to get out what she wanted to say, yet no words came to mind.

“Because of me.” Adagio said, stepping forward slightly to stand next to Sunset. The six girls all turned to face Adagio as she stepped forward, Rarity, without a second thought, took a step closer towards Adagio.

“Darling, we understand you’ve made mistakes in the past, but haven’t we all? Who would we be to not offer you a second chance?” Rarity said, giving Adagio a comforting smile as she held Adagio’s hand gently.

“Yeah! You seem like…totally nice and reformed now too!” Pinkie Pie beamed, getting up from her seat. Rainbow Dash and Twilight were standing mere feet away from Adagio and Sunset, just watching the conversation.

Adagio felt her heart rate begin to slow down and tears began to blur her vision slightly as a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips.

“Thank you…” She said quietly, smiling to the six girls surrounding her. Rainbow Dash and Twilight soon stepped forward and looked into Adagio’s eyes for a moment before speaking.

“Hey, as long as you aren’t any better at sports than me, I think we’ll get along just fine.” Rainbow said jokingly, giving Adagio a friendly punch to the arm. Adagio chuckled softly at the friendly gesture, but she stopped as Twilight stepped forward. Twilight’s expression was seemingly serious as she looked to the former siren, making a chill run down Adagio’s spine. Twilight said nothing for a few moments, simply staring deeply at Adagio. After a few more moments of this, much to Adagio’s confusion, Twilight’s expression soon contorted into a soft smile.

“As you probably know, I won’t be around a whole lot…but, when I am here, I look forward to seeing the progress you make in gaining trust with those around you.” Twilight said with a smile. Adagio could feel the tension in her body slowly leaving as the atmosphere around her and her girlfriend became welcoming and kind.

“Thank you…so much.” Adagio said, smiling once again. Sunset moved a step closer to her girlfriend and gave her a comforting smile, gently holding Adagio’s hand in hers. Adagio turned to look at Sunset and leaned slightly closer to her, whispering something in her ear.

“I told you they’d be okay with it~”
