Chapter 3- A new friend (2 years later)

(2 years after chapter 2, Sugar Star is 6 years old, Flurry Heart is 12 years old)

Sugar Star and Flurry are outside, Sugar watches Flurry beat a pony manikin with a stick for training

"Flurry Heart, what are you doing?" Sugar Star asks her sister in a confused voice

"Training." she answers in a Simple and sure voice, still beating the manikin

Sugar Star has a confused look "Huh? Training.. For what?"

"To protect the empire when I become the Crystal Queen like mom of course!" Flurry answers in an obvious voice

"But.. why?" Sugar asks

"You ask a lot of questions, Sugar Star" Flurry says in an annoyed voice

Sugar Star giggles "Well I’m bored, so.. annoying you gives me entertainment. Are you almost done? I want to play with you!!!"

Flurry frowns "I'm sorry Sugar, but I have to keep practicing. Why don’t you go, and try to make friends? I'm sure there are lots of nice ponies that would love to play with you!"

"Hmm. Okay! Good idea!" She answers

Sugar Star, Flaps her wings and flies off to the middle of town, and lands

Some crystal fillies and colts are having fun, laughing playing with a ball, but one little filly is sitting by a house, alone eating cookies

Sugar Star slowly walks towards the younf filly who seems around her age "Hi!" she says, looking down at her

the young filly looks up "Oh umm hello your highness"

"Why aren’t you playing with the other fillies, and colts?" Sugar asks

"I just.. Uhh.. I-I don’t want to share my cookies (2 seconds pause) your highness"

Sugar Star rolls her eyes in annoyement

"No need to be so formal, alicorns are royalty, not pegasi" she says

"I mean.. You're still a princess" the young filly says

Sugar Star sighs "I guess… Anyway.. I’m-"

The little unicorn cuts Sugar Star off and says " You're Princess Sugar Star… I know."

"Okay.. Well.. What’s your name?" Sugar asks

"I'm Gemma!" she answers

Sugar smiles "That’s a pretty name! Wanna be friends? I don’t really have any."

Gemma looks confused and quite nervous "Y-you want to be friends with me?"

"Well yeah. Why would I ask if I didn’t want to be?" The young princess asks

"To be polite I guess." Gemma mumbles

"If I wanted to be polite I would have said : Hey Wanna be my friend cause you look lonely” She says

Gemma rolls her eyes and mumbles "straight forward much…"

"What was that? I couldn’t hear what you said." Sugar Star asks Gemma with a confused, frusturated and a bit annoyed look

"Oh! Nothing worth your time. Anyway.. wanna play a game?" Gemma asks

"Sure! I'd love too!" Sugar says in a happy voice

Cadence Slowly walks towards where Flurry Heart is training, outside close to the crystal castle

Queen Cadence turns to face her daughter "Flurry?"

"Yes mom?" She asks

"Where’s your sister?" Cadence asks Flurry, a bit worried

"She was bugging me so I told her to make friends with some of the fillies in town." Flurry Heart answers in a calm and serious voice

"You. Did. WHAT?!" Cadence yells extremely worried and very mad at Flurry for leaving her sister alone

Flurry care free "She’s just in the snowflake. It’ll be easy to find her. Besides you let me play-"

Cadence cuts her daughter off "Yes while somepony was watching you Flurry Heart! Without supervision is a different story. (Talking to herself) Take deep breaths."

Cadence takes a few deep breaths

"Mom! I'm eleven! I can take care of myself!" Flurry says, a bit upset

Cadence looks frusturated "I'm aware of that, but your sister is only six years old Flurry Heart! You may be able to take care of yourself, but she can’t."

"But-" Flurry starts to say until her mother cuts her off

"No buts. Go find your sister right now!" Cadence says in a very loud and serious voice

Flurry seems mad and quite annoyed by her mothers demands "Ugh! Okay fine. Stupid baby pegasus." she mumbles

Cadence rays an eyebrow in confusion "What was that?"

"Nothing… I’ll go find her." she answers

Flurry slowly walks away

"What am I going to do?! What am I going to do?! Sugar Star could be in danger! What if a strange pony approches her?!"
Cadence says to herself in panic, while pacing and breathing heavily from stress about what horrible things might be happening to her daughter

But suddenly Sugar Star arrives, galloping towards her mother, with Gemma running behind her

"Mommy Mommy!" Sugar Star says in a happy voice

Cadence has a relieved but worried look "Sugar Star! Oh my Celestia where were you?"

"Making a new friend! This is Gemma!" She answers joyfully

Gemma bows down to Cadence

"Uhh hello your majesty." Gemma says nervously, still bowing

Sugar giggles and says "I told you no need to be formal! You’re my friend there for it doesn’t matter."

"Well my mommy says if you’re addressing royalty than you should treat them with respect." Gemma answers

"Not if your friends with royalty." Sugar Star tells Gemma with a smile

Gemma slowly gets back up, no longer bowing "I guess you're right, but your not a princess princess like you said earlier (mocks Sugar Star) No need to be so formal, alicorns are royalty, not pegasi. And besides.."

"Your mom is a queen." Gemma whispers to her friend

"Yeah.." The young pegasus says

Cadence Laughs a bit "Thank you for being formal Gemma, but now that you have introduced yourself just call me whatever you please."

"Ok your High- I mean... Sugar’s Mom" Gemma says nervously

Sugar Star and Cadence giggle

Cadence smiles "Well you two can go play, I need to talk to Shining Armor for a bit."

"Okay mommy!"

Shining Armor and Cadence are talking behind a closed door in the crystal castle

"Hmm what do you think they're talking about?" Gemma asks as she turns her head towards Sugar Star

"I don't know let's find out!" Sugar answers with an excited voice

They both go closer to the door to listen

Meanwhile In the room where Shining Armor and Cadence are...

"Shining?" Cadence says

"Yes Cadence?" He asks

Cadence looks at him with a strange look "Do you think we should teach Sugar how to protect The Empire as we are teaching Flurry?"

"I don’t know… Sugar Star doesn’t have… You know.." He replies in a nervous voice

"What?... A horn?.. Magic?" Cadence says with an annoyed tone of voice

"Yeah… And besides she isn’t going to inherit the throne like Flurry Heart." He says

"I know. I know… But maybe-" She replies

Shining Armor cuts her off his wife "Cadence, Flurry Heart is a strong, though and very capable pony but.. Sugar Star isn’t strong enough to fight, and she never will be. She’ll likely end up bringing papers place to place from Canterlot to here, or be at her sisters side but she will never be strong enough to hold a big meaning on Equestria not on her own."

"Are you seriously picking favorites between our beloved daughters?!" Cadence says in a fairly angry tone

Shining Armor looks surprised but then gets a bit frusturated "Of course not! I’m just stating facts that.. Sugar Star isn’t strong enough to be a ruler like her sister!"

"I can’t believe you Shining Armor!" She yells at him

"Look.. I just.." He starts saying

But Cadence doesn’t listen to him instead she storms out of room, and when she opens the door see’s Gemma, and Sugar sitting right outside the door, eavesdropping, and Sugar Star has the saddest eyes full of tears

Sugar Star puts her head into Gemma’s side to cry

"WOW! You are some nice parents you know that?!" Gemma says in an angry tone

Cadence looks surprised to see them, but a bit mad as well "Y-You girls shouldn’t have been listening to us"

"But Daddy is right… I’m not strong enough to be like Flurry Heart I’ll NEVER be strong enough! I’m not even a real princess! I’m just a.. a stupid Pegasus!" Sugar Star says while crying

Flurry arrives, slowly walking towards them and says "Mom I couldn’t find-... Sugar Star are you okay? Why are you crying?" she says in a conserned tone

"NO! I’M NOT OKAY!" Sugar yells

Sugar takes off running

Flurry looks very worried and angry "Uhh mind telling me what happened here?!"

Why don’t you just ask the crystal king and queen?! They know all about it! It's entirely their fault!!! Gemma says angrily
and than she goes running after Sugar Star

"What did you guys do?!" Flurry says, confronting her parents

"I didn't do anything" Cadence says

Shining Armor lies and adds "Neither did I"

Flurry has a very angry face expression "Well clearly you did!"

"Look, Your father said she wasn’t strong enough to be as good as you and that she never will be, and well... Sugar.. She was.. Listening to us talking and ran off, then you arrived" Cadence answers

"And what about the other filly?" Flurry heart asks

Cadence smiles "Oh.. that’s her new friend Gemma."

"Well at least me and Gemma are on Sugars side." Flurry says in a rather calm voice

"now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to comfort my little sister!" she adds in an Angry tone

She walks away with very loud Hoof Steps

Hope you all enjoyed chapter 3! I know there are a lot of time jumps... but that's just the way the story is :)

anyway I'm leaving for Spain tomorrow so I won't be posting any chapters for 2 weeks sorry
