A Onyx in the rough

The big move

In the past

I layed down as I was captured in the holding cell in a Peridot ship. Yeah I'm a prisoner but somebody has got to tell this story.

Anyway I was just laying there when the ship started malfunctioning. Probably from the corruption blast the diamonds were using on the Earth.

To be honest I never really liked the place even though I was a crystal gem. Many of my old allys questioned this.

You see I believed that gems deserved to be free to live their own lives and that we shouldn't kill other life forms. But this doesn't mean I like other life forms. You understand?

Anyway my appearance was different. I didn't look like homeworld slaves but I didn't look like crystal gems.

I wore black pants with that little metal chain. My shirt was a black one with a gray zig-zag line half way down the middle. My shoes were dark blue with gray highlights. My hair was pitch black and my eyes the same colour. I wore a hoodie with a gray diamond sign on the top. To complete the look I wore black wristbands with metal spikes which went well with my skin colour. Gray of course.

Yeah I know I looked very sinister and bad. Not someone you see fighting for good.

I was the only other passenger than a lapis lazuli with her gem on her chest.

The blast broke the energy shields letting me escape. I walked out of the prison with not a care in the world. I looked at my jailmate. She was to weak to move.

I may be cold to others but I'm not heartless. So i poofed her.

Yeah yeah. I know how much of a hypocrite that makes me sound but look at it this way.

If I didnt poof her she might have been corrupted or worst captured and shattered. Or I can poof her put her in a bubble and save her from getting shattered or corrupted instead of lugging her around getting us both caught and slowing us down.

Still don't see it from my point of view? Well your loss.

After poofing her and carrying the bubble it put her in. (I wasn't going to leave her there. I told you I wasn't heartless).

I found one of the escape pods and set a course for Earth. But I guess the energy blast put all the coordinates jumbled.

after one crazy hyperdrive later

I crash landed into the ocean and the pod began to sink. I grabbed the bubble gem and swam for it.

By the time I finally got to the shore it was midnight. I took refuge in a cave around the edge of a town.

I decided it might be dangerous to explore my surroundings at night so i decided to wait until day.

The next day

I walked around the town I was in. After walking along a alley I turned onto the main road and saw a boarded up house looking like it had better days.

I looked around and saw a pair of humans . I mean seriously. Who names their species with a name like Humans.

I walked up to them. "Excuse me"? I asked politely.

"Yes"? The green one said.

"I'm new in town and I was wondering about that house". I said gesturing to the old house.

"That house hasn't been lived in for years. You'll have to speak to the mayor if you want to buy it". A creamed colour one said.

"Okay. Where is the mayor's office"? I asked trying to be polite again.

They pointed to the big town hall. I mentally face palmed. Humans might be a bit stupid but it makes sense that the one in charge lives in the biggest house in town.

I waved goodbye to the pair and headed off to the town hall.

One long conversion and signing sheets later

"This is the final paper. After signing your name here the house will be yours". Mayor Mare said handing me some papers.

That's right. Mayor Mare is her actual name. Its like her parents knew she would be mayor.

Now I need to write my...name. Well time to make up a name.

To leave all of my past behind all I have to do is change my name.

I wrote on the paper and handed it over to the mayor.

"Well now that all that's done let me be the first to welcome you to Canterlot Black Lazuli". Mayor Mare said smiling.

Yeah I know my new name sounds villainous. But I based my new name on two things.

Black as in the colour of my gem which was on the right side of my chest. Lazuli as in my roommate Lapis Lazuli.

A couple of days later

I looked at my new house. It was finally finished. A farmer that worked on Sweet Apple Acres helped with all the heavy lifting. I think his name was Big Mac.

He wasn't much of a talker but I can appreciate that someone isn't going to ask many questions.

I even decided to buy him a gift.( back when I was a crystal gem i did odd jobs to earn a bit of money.)

I decided to get him a book set about some earth children who went on all sorts of crazy adventures. He seemed the type who would read in his free time.

I looked around my new house. It looked like a model house. It just needed that personal touch only one can bring to their own home.

In the kitchen was a window made of shards of glass that had broken. The glass used to belong to the first place where I saw true love. The most beautiful church I had ever seen. No I didn't steal the pieces. I recovered them when the church burned down thanks to a team of Homeworld rubies.

In the lounge room was was a bookcase filled with my favourite books. Of course each shelf had a different type of book. Surprisingly I had a lot of romance novels and no science fiction. Guess I wanted to leave that old me behind.

The railing on the stairs were wooden and had carvings from yours truly. A rose, a waterfall, the moon, song notes arranged to match my favourite song and finally a bird. Those items may have been seen as random to anyone else but they were significant to me.

In the guest room was a painting of the roses on the day I arrived and met rose quartz. I had managed to perfect it. The rest of the room was just the nessecitys so someone else could personalise it when they stayed.

The bathroom was packed with tiles that made up a beautiful ocean mural. The mirror in the bathroom was made of silver and had a beautiful finish.

My bedroom was full of trinkets from my old life. Along was space for new things symbolizing my past and future. If you didn't lie down or look up you couldn't see the bubble with a Lapis Lazuli gem which I began to think as my sister in it.

But my favorite part was the set of pictures on this wooden table I brought.

There was a photo of Ruby and Sapphire on their first romantic date.

There was a photo of Garnet lying on the beach against a stone hand.

A picture of Amethyst looking starstruck at a mega deluxe pizza.

A picture with Pearl dancing away to some ballet music.

Finally there was Rose sitting in a field of roses that were just starting to bloom along with the wind making the petals blow away in the wind making a beautiful picture.

I smiled. I finally felt at home. But then I grimaced at the one thing I was worried about. Going to Canterlot High.
