An Innocent Letter
Luna lay in the comfort of her room, the sun had risen hours before but the Moon Goddess couldn't manage to fall asleep. She found herself seeming to be expecting something, but what was she able to expect in the light of day. She tossed and turned in her bed, trying to get comfortable but was unable to do so, she let out a loud huff as she stood from her bed.
Her wings tucked close to her body as she walked from her bed to her door, her foot steps resonated through the room. She reached the door and she gripped it with magic to find it locked from the other side, she was momentarily puzzled and tried to unlock it but found it wouldn't budge. A small black blur shot in front of her, Luna jumped back in surprise and tracked the small black thing in it's movements.
It circled the room for a few moments before it stopped and shot toward Luna, she raised her wings to serve as a shield and put up a magical barrier. The blur stopped outside of the shield and began to swirl into a small vortex before a letter appeared in it's place. "What in the wide world of Equestria?" she said, dropping her barrier and tucking her wings back into place, the letter just hovered before her, unmoving and rolled into a small scroll.
The parchment was gold, was binded with a black ribbon and sealed by a gray stone, she didn't recognize the Seal though, it was a raven holding a sword in one talon and an ax in another. Luna tentatively reached out with her magic and unsealed the letter and read the contents.
Dear Gods of Equestria, it has come to our attention that you are among the most powerful gods among the realms and you have been invited to take part in the Battle of Gods, a friendly suggestion would be to accept this invitation for the consequences will be dire if you don't

P.S. Below you will see directions to a portal to enter the realm where the battles will take place and where you shall be staying for the duration of the time
Luna read the letter multiple times to make sure this was legitimate, she read the directions to open the portal and looked back to the door, she gripped the knob and turned it and found it no longer locked. She resealed the letter and slammed the door open, she charged through the barrier and towards the throne room.

Celestia sat on the throne, a short day today had been but she was still quite tired, her eyelids began to droop when her sister barreled in "Sister, Sister!" Luna yelled, running towards the throne, behind her was a hovering Discord struggling to keep up with the running Alicorn. "Luna, Discord? What is it?" Celestia asked, her head tilted to the side slightly.
Luna arrived before the throne along with Discord, both were panting,, they must have run from Discord's room on the other side of the castle. "Si- Sister, I received a le- letter" Luna panted, her magic flickered across her horn and Luna pulled a scroll from her mane, she pushed it towards Celestia and she took it. Celestia's eyes skimmed across the letter, reading Twilight's letters across the years gave her the ability to speed read but she read the letter once and her eyes went over it again and again.
Celestia's eyes flicked back to her sister and then to Discord "Discord, can you analyze this and see if it truly is alien to our realm?" The Sun Goddess asked the God of Chaos. Discord looked Celestia in the eye "I've already done so, it is" he said, his eyes were as filled with concern as Luna's were. The door had only just sealed itself when it blasted open and a tall, sickly black creature stood there, everyone turned to the door.
Queen Chrysalis and Princess Cadence stood in the door way "Was that really necessary?" Cadence asked the Goddess of Disguise and Illusions but the Changeling ignored the Goddess of Love and marched across the room with purpose, followed by Cadence. "I expect you received the same letter as us" Chrysalis said and pulled out a letter that read the same as Luna's letter. All the Pony Goddesses and the Draconiqus nodded grimly.
"So then it's finally time, our combined godly strength it finally enough to attract His attention" Cadence said, venom in her voice. Celestia nodded to Cadence "It must have been Twilight's ascension that brought about his attention" Celestia said, her voice was grim.
"I told you it was a bad idea for her to become one of us" Chrysalis said angrily.
"You said no such thing, I said that" Cadence said to the Changeling.
"It doesn't matter who said it, what matters is we need to get her" Discord said "He doesn't send a letter to the new god and when they don't show up he gets mad"
"How does he expect us to know that we need them" Luna said
"Thats exactly why, he likes being angry at lesser gods" Celestia said
The gods continued to bicker among themselves before Cadence slammed her hoof to the ground "ENOUGH, lets just go get Twilight" Cadence groaned, the other Goddesses and God nodded before departing and flying towards Ponyville.

Spike sat on the stairs, reading a book about the mating habits of Dragons when a loud pounding on the door resonated throughout the Library "I'll get it" Spike called and set the book down before rushing to the door. He opened it to reveal Luna, Celestia, Discord, Cadence, and Chrysalis "Uh, I think it's for you Twilight" Spike called and Twilight walked towards the door and smiled at the Gods and Goddess until she caught sight of Chrysalis, her smile disappeared. "Do we have to reform another one?" Twilight asked with a sigh.
"There is no time for that besides, we need her wicked knowledge for the grim news we bear" Luna said, her voice commanding like it had been on Nightmare Night but on a lower volume. Twilight looked at the princesses, Discord, and Chrysalis "Grim news, whats happened?" Twilight asked, concerned.
"I don't think this type of news is meant to be told on a porch step" Chrysalis said, semi dramatically, she shoved her way past her fellow Gods and into the Library. She sat down on a cushion she had levitated over, she was a Queen, she shouldn't have to sit on the floor. Twilight stepped aside and gestured inside "Come in and make yourselves at home" Twilight said cheerfully, all the gods came in, while the princesses sat on the floor. Discord hovered in on a cotton candy cloud.
"So why are you all here?" Twilight asked, shutting the door and coming to sit between Cadence and Luna, Chrysalis looked at Celestia "You should have told her sooner" she said.
"Tell me what?" Twilight asked.
Celestia shut her eyes and sighed "I'd hoped that we would have more time, but clearly that isn't the case" she said, her voice somewhat dim.
"You see dear Twilight, once every thousand years, a tournament is called to order throughout the realms" Luna began
"This tournament is for gods to participate in combat and, if they choose, to kill another god without damaging their own realm" Cadence continued.
"This tournament is what keeps us from growing to powerful but some realms don't have enough strength for the realm to be a threat" Discord went on, his manner of speaking far from it's normal chaoticness.
"For millennium, Equestria was one such realm, we have had a close call when Cadence ascended, but we never received word" Chrysalis continued the story.
"But now that you have ascended, we have been noticed and now we must be called away, along with you, do you understand?" Cadence asked.
Twilight looked in shock at the Gods "So we have to participate in combat, what happens if we refuse?" she asked, but no God spoke up and they cast sad glances at one another. "When do we begin?" The Goddess of Magic asked.
Celestia looked to her student "I don't think you unders-" she started but Twilight cut her off.
"It would be an honor to protect my realm as I did the Human realm" she smiled as she spoke and she was truthful as she spoke. No one spoke but Luna pulled out her letter and passed it to Twilight "We will need to concentrate our magics to open the portal" Chrysalis said and Twilight nodded.
"Lets get to it then" Discord said.
