I know that I’ve been kind of quiet lately. Two posts per week, one of them Being a Better Writer. But there’s a good reason for it.
Jungle is surging forward. And I mean racing. I’ve been throwing a lot of work into it as it has entered the Alpha, and currently, that means I’m getting about 20,000-30,000 words of it edited per day,
All right, guys. Time for a status update.
First of all, it's a good thing I got 20,000 words written last week, because I had more shifts than normal at my other job this week, and that's made this week quite a bit slower. In the end, I guess it balances out at neutral, aiming somewhere slightly north of 10k per week. Which is a lot less than my old, pre-second job standard, but still functional.
Holy smokes, is this for real? I'll give it to you straight. Yes. Yes it is. I've been kind of quiet this week (having a holiday on Monday helped), save reminders that Unusual Events: A "Short" story collection is coming out in just four days! If you've somehow missed all the news on that end, it's awesome, it's excellent, and you can pick up a copy ahead of time to be delivered the moment it comes out
Unsurprisingly, when I posted last Friday, I absolutely forgot that today was Memorial Day! It had registered at some point in the back of my mind, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I connected things far enough to realize “Hold on a moment, I don’t do Being a Better Writer on Memorial Day. It’s a holiday.”
So ... just minutes ago, I typed out the final line of Shadow of an Empire.
That's right. It's done. After 14 straight hours of writing (one hour of which was finishing this week's BaBW) and 13,000 words, Shadow of an Empire is officially a complete Alpha 1 draft.
Tomorrow, I will celebrate. Sands, I'll do that right now! But it's finally DONE!
So, some final numbers for those curious.
Well readers, this is it. I promised I’d have an update for you before the end of the week, and while I cut it close, this is it. Jungle‘s pre-order status is being reviewed as I write this, and will likely be up before Monday.
