My favorite dark story on fimfiction very well might be "Eyes Without a Face". I describe it as the story of Batman, retold to answer the question, "What if Batman were a psychologically-plausible person instead of a comic-book hero?" The pony Rose plays the part of Batman. At the end of the story, Rose gives up trying to live a normal or happy life, realizing she can do nothing but cling obsessively to her futile way of coping with a trauma she will never get beyond.

I always meant to review it, but I never got around to it. In fact I left some critical comments on it which probably didn't get across how much I liked the story. It also has some stellar writing, passages I'd like to quote. But It's been deleted. Does anybody remember who wrote it?
