Is there a way to use the separate Joy Cons of a Switch to play Smash.

My little sister wants to battle me, but we only have these two Joy Cons and I can't figure out what to do to get them working.

I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work, since that would cut Taunts from the game, but can someone tell me what to do?

Try going to the Home Screen, selecting the Controllers option near the middle-bottom of the screen (to the right of the Album), then choosing Change Grip/Order and follow the prompts.
