Each month we will be spotlighting one pairing, or suggesting a writing prompt. As you may have seen on the main page, this month's area of focus is Aria x Ember.

Aria is hard work. Sonata finds her hostility annoying, Adagio finds her defiance annoying, and I'm sure we can imagine how anyone not a siren would react to Aria's constant antagonism and negativity. Flash would get a stomach ulcer, Sunset a brain anneurism. But Ember... Ember is just as abrasive, egotistical, short-tempered and violent as Aria. With documented proof of being able to put up with two of Equestria's most irritating characters: Garble and Spike.

And I think even Aria would admit that being dragon lady is kind of cool.

On the other side of it, Ember is someone small trying to hold sway over others far bigger and stronger. Someone who might learn a lot from the girl who fought against her own nature to wrap humanity around her fingers rather than overpowering them directly.

As ever with ships like this, half the hurdle is getting them together. They live worlds apart on paths that would never naturally cross. How they meet and hook up can do a lot to shape what their eventual relationship looks like. Given Ember's station, Aria venturing to Equestria to join her seems more likely than the alternative, but anything's possible.

What would someone who despairs over the idiots she has to lead see in someone who is almost gleefully someone else's idiot? What would Aria value in someone who won absolute power only to institute less violent reforms, and generally softened her people? Maybe Aria decides desert islands just aren't hot enough for her vacation this year and goes to visit the lava floes in the dragonlands instead. Maybe Ember figures visiting the human world is the next diplomatic step for dragons, and Twilight has the forethought to suggest Aria as an ambassador. Maybe Aria is after a more powerful ally who can stand up to Adagio, or maybe Ember a more cunning one to outfox the ponies.

Or maybe...

Don't write a love story between girl and dog. That's a stupid idea. But a canine Ember as the one companion a broken Aria can count on could be a beautiful tale. This piece is by stummm.

I joined this group not just to see all the unusual siren ships in one place, but to encourage others to write more of them, so if you're thinking of writing an Aria x Ember story or have one in the works already, by all means let us know in the thread below. Or just discuss the ship: what you like about it and why, what problems you've encountered with it before, what scenarios you can envision for the two of them. Just talking about it like that can inspire others with new story ideas, some of which might get written down, at which point we all benefit
