'White Wolf. They call her the Stormrunner. She always seems to follow one. They say she gallops into battle with a pack of silver winter wolves at her back. They say she can turn into a wolf herself whenever she wants, big as an Ursa Minor with enormous owl-like wings, piercing eyes as blue as lapis, and a howl that fells the trees and brings high mountains down to earth. Nothing has managed to kill her. Nothing. That mare is not of this world. You hear the thunder, lightning cracking, bolts of it slamming into the ground before you. And there she is...grinning...with sharpened steel in both her hooves'
~ Brandywine, Quartermaster of the Royal Calkshire Chargers, treated for shell-shock

White Wolf the Stormrunner, fiercest of the Eternal Knights, has a formidable reputation, not just among her friends but also her foes.
Such was her deadly efficiency that, during the Civil War, she became treated as a dreaded bogeybeast, said to hunt down and rip apart naughty foals, leaving their partially-eaten remains hung on the nearest tree outside their parent's houses.
The tales of her nightmarish capabilities are ever more fanciful. Incorrigible gossips and half-mad veterans would say that White Wolf's howl spurned any nearby pony into madness, that she ate the flesh of her enemies to heal the wounds they'd inflicted on her, that Midnight Blade kept her in a cage and fed her prisoners of war, there was even a tale that insisted that Nightmare Moon herself had birthed her after mating with a dark wolf god that hungered to swallow the sun.
No doubt Midnight Blade and the rest of the Eternal Knights themselves had some part in spreading these rumours. After all, few weapons are quite as effective as terror and this was an age of war.

White Wolf's origins are somewhat less fanciful though no less interesting.
Her parents are unknown but they vanished early in Wolf's foalhood, abandoning her or killed on the outskirts of the forests by bandits or monsters, such details are obscure. The propositions for her heritage and upbringing are endless but no facts ever seem to come. Perhaps White Wolf prefers it that way.
Orphaned, young White Wolf was taken in by the Wolfsong Deer, headed by the mighty Runningwind and Fallingleaf, two of Laurelore's staunch allies in her campaign to unify Equestria. The Wolfsong deer, though reclusive by nature, were more tolerant of the 'Uncloven' than most others and Fallingleaf insisted on raising the young pegasus filly as her own beside her two sons, Sharphorn and Lightfoot, and her only daughter, Wintermist.

Learning the arts of a warrior beside her father and siblings, the arts of a healer beside her mother and the mysterious ways of shamanism from her mentor, Dawnwind (Who taught her how to fly effectively with the help of her pet owls and hawks) White Wolf perfected the ways of the deer and, after many gruelling years of earning the tribe's trust, was officially declared part of the Wolfsong, earning her Cutie Mark of a white wolf howling at the moon between two wolf heads, also howling.
[Note: Deer have what is known as 'Twitter-Patterns' that can be called the cervine equivalent of Cutie Marks, earning them at the peak of fawnhood upon discovering their purpose and how it may affect their tribe. These take the form of brightly-coloured runes that inscribe themselves about their faces, their meaning known only to the deer who keep such knowledge only to themselves, White Wolf herself having sworn an oath of secrecy]
This action, however, brought the Wolfsong into dispute with the High King of the Deer, one with zero tolerance for outside aspects introduced among the tribes.
Aspen.

Runningwind and Aspen were not friends. The Wolfsong's active alliances with the Uncloven were seen by Aspen as heresy, threatening the deer way of life though Runningwind declared the only thing threatened was Aspen and his tribe's overblown sense of superiority, the Great Whitetail Confederacy having looked down upon the equine folk with impunity for millennia.
Nonetheless, Aspen demanded at the conclave of the tribes that the foal no longer be privy to the secret ways of the deer, either by banishing her or putting her to death.
It was said it that it took twelve stags-at-arms to restrain Fallingwind from attacking the High King.
A war was narrowly prevented by White Wolf herself, who volunteered to leave the Wolfsong for their protection and seek her place among the ponies, journeying to Ponyville, the famous little town where Laurelore the Firsticorn was born some few centuries ago.

White Wolf found fitting in with the ponies far more difficult than fitting in with the deer ever could have been.
To be sure, she was an oddity. Her dress sense and bizarre mannerisms notwithstanding, White Wolf had some distinct features that set her apart from most. Shaggy, unshorn fetlocks pointed to a lifestyle seen by most as barbaric, combined with her set of scars from a foalhood spent monster-hunting. Clear colour change between the primary and secondary feathers on her wings were unlike most pegasi. And one small but distinct feature was a set of protruding canine teeth on her upper and lower jaws, the upper pair poking out between her closed lips like that of a batpony. These seemed to be the only things she was not willing to talk about and disliked others drawing attention to them, sometimes reacting violently. Seen as a menace to society and unapproachable, for the first time in years, White Wolf felt truly alone.

Later on however, her luck turned. Princess Luna and Celestia were being taught in Ponyville under Star-Swirl in the ever important lessons of friendship. Celestia needed no help in gaining the immediate attention and love of all around her but Luna was different. Secluded and withdrawn, she made few friends but White Wolf was one of them. Both mares loved the night and it was one such night that White Wolf taught Luna to howl at the moon like a wolf, an activity that both enjoy immensely to this day. Taken under the bat-like wing of Midnight Blade, Luna's mysterious bodyguard who also shared her distance from society, White Wolf became the second of the famed Eternal Knights. When a wolf-pack threatened the local farms, White Wolf ventured into the Everfree, wrestled their gigantic matriarch into submission and henceforth had the pack at her side, never fully taming them but keeping them sated and out of harm's way.

Her contributions to the wars Equestria fought were remarkable. In the Raptor Wars, she challenged the griffon champion, Colonel Argulor, to single-combat at the Defence of Cloudsdale, ripped the wings from his shoulders and sent him careening to earth. At the Reinland Crisis, when the Princesses worked to prevent a war between Prance and Farmany, restoring both countries to their respective heirs to the throne, she and her Princess distinguished herself at the Siege of Lunich beside the Oberfurst of Farmany and his battle-brother, a young Fletcher Fray, who would later join the Eternal Knights as she had.
And during the Civil War, White Wolf became synonymous with dread and destruction, an unstoppable storm of carnage upon the Celestine armies, charging into battle with the pack at her side, howling all the while. The Eternal Knights fought and suffered long in that war and, due to their oaths, they continue to do so.

In the Unspeakable Battle, when Marephistallion attempted to sack Ponyville and slay Princess Luna while her sister was presiding over the Royal Wedding of Princess Mi Amore Cadenza and Captain-General Shining Armour, White Wolf officially stood for her tribe in order to deliver aid to Luna's forces despite the stigma.

The most recent war White Wolf fought and, as usual, prevailed in was the War for the Cervine Succession. After High King Aspen nearly destroyed Ponyville in retaliation for a completely different group of individuals deforesting his lands, Runningwind was outraged, declaring that, despite the High King's supposed wish to never show themselves to the Uncloven, Aspen had committed a direct act of war that threatened the deer-folk.
Aspen's powers over the mind worked even upon Alicorns, though only one at a time. Though Celestia was duped into believing the ponies of Equestria had wronged the deer (Somehow) Luna went along, pretending to be duped beside her sister, then met with the Wolfsong later in the night to discuss the hostilities.
The Wolfsong formally declared Aspen wilfully negligent towards his subjects and excessively belligerent towards the Uncloven, demanding he step down as High King. Aspen, in turn, declared the Wolfsong traitors to the cervine realms and ordered them exterminated. A cervine civil war took place, one that seemed destined to last for centuries, perhaps millennia.
It lasted a week.

Wintermist, White Wolf's sister, had not been idle. She had delivered proof of Aspen's negligence to the neighbouring tribes, minimalizing his influence over them. Then, to keep Aspen's warriors busy, White Wolf brought the full strength of the wolf-pack down upon their domain, any Great Whitetail battle host that ventured into the contested lands beset upon by the predators, having grown large, strong and intelligent in the centuries under White Wolf's command.
Blackthorn, Aspen's commander-in-chief, was beaten in single-combat by White Wolf herself outside the Elderhold, his antlers removed as a sign of disgrace. At the sight of this, the majority of Aspen's warriors surrendered and Aspen was captured.

Runningwind removed one antler, forever depriving Aspen of his powers, and banished him from the realm. Aspen's youngest daughter, Bramble, who had never supported her father's arrogance and xenophobia, was instilled as the new Chieftainess of the Whitetail as a conclave was drawn up, reworking the cervine government as a confederacy of tribal chieftains and shamans that could run their own tribes under their own laws and work together in harmony as the ponies did.
White Wolf now stands beside the Eternal Knights as she has for centuries, observing the threats to Equestria and working in the shadows to eliminate them by any means necessary.

fasinating backstory. If those rumors are true, I think even MIdnight and Fletcher were first afraid of her

Well, it's quite likely they spread the rumours themselves.
Ponies are so much easier to beat when their scared out of their minds.

Indeed. You make one for Fletcher and MIdnight too, right?

Yeah, Fletcher's next.
Midnight's backstory contains spoilers to my next few chapters so he may have to wait a bit.
