While not the "official" version hosted by Equestria Daily, this National Pony Writing Month challenge has the same goal and largely similar rules. Scheduled for the month of June, the challenge involves writing a set number of words before the end of the month, all in an effort to keep your keyboard warm and your fingers quick and active. Never a bad thing, am I right?

In this version, the set number of words varies according to difficulty setting: Easy (25,000 words); Moderate (38,000 words); and Advanced (50,000 words). There will also be a two-week period at the start of July for editing, proofreading, and general tweaking. Calming Moon, the founder of the group in question, is hosting the event, though suggestions are welcome if you'd like to help out in any way.

The aim is to encourage at least thirty people to participate in the challenge, hence my bringing said challenge to your attention here.

While I'm doing so, however, I might also suggest, to anyone taking part, that they hit two targets with one bullet and include at least one TAGC-relevant character in their NaPoWriMo writing. Consider it a bonus challenge, if you like.

We've got lots of characters with untapped potential. They have unexplored vices and virtues, and underdeveloped relationships with the rest of the cast. If push comes to shove, we can always create something completely new for them. Yet there's no question the tags need to come out more often, and for some characters, an ambitious outing could give them a good chance to shine.

That aside, why else would you take part? Well, this is a chance to tell a new story, be it meaningful, delightful, or just cheerfully off-the-wall. This is a chance to practise for the November event that Equestria Daily will undoubtedly host later. It's a chance to work alongside other writers in a community event, and praise, criticize, or fist-fight with them as and when appropriate. It's a chance to climb the mountain, and hopefully climb high enough to get a good view of the land around, of the terrain unexplored, of the vistas never before enjoyed.
