But, they seem to be setting it up pretty well, in my opinion. Plus, Sunset Shimmer had two Alicorn-like transformations thus far, and no one seemed to bat an eye.

I still have a restless feeling that Starlight's going to do some heroic deed that sets her up perfectly for the ascension, maybe (but not at all likely) in the season finale, but I see your points.
