I like it! ^^ On my first attempt I noticed that the first symbol of each pair seemed to map to either 1 or 2, which made me think they represented decimal numbers from 1 to 26 and therefore a sequence of alphabetic positions. But that didn't produce many sensible letters. It wasn't until I realized there were eight distinct symbols that I figured it out. :) (And luckily, I'm enough of a nerd to know how to read octal.) I think the first character in the second row should be a sideways-single-bar-horseshoe.
