I've changed my mind, but in a different way.

Regardless of whether or not I'm even the right gender to be referred to as such, I've still made myself out to be somewhat of a "motherly figure (albeit a very strict and controlling mother who still has the audacity to tuck her kids in bed at night)" for most of these people.

It felt rude to just leave them behind just because I got in trouble.

That's what my father's mother did to him, and when he needed her most.
