Introduction: I'm trying to work out a good list of the important Ponies of Our Town. I'm fanon-mining several stories here, in addition of course to the canon Season Five opener. So far the ones I have are (quickie format, but I have more complete descriptions of several of these). This was originally published to my blog. Some of the details (especially regarding Starlight Glimmer) are based on Shadow Wars Story Verse fanon, particularly the speculations about a Shadow Vice of Envy -- the Shadow Vices are sapient psychic-virus like creatues from the Shadow Universe which enhance a Pony's power at the cost of inclining them toward the appropriate vice.

Starlight Glimmer: The one we all love to hate, who founded the place. A magical talent on a par with Twilight Sparkle's. Her soul is twisted by envy (possibly, merged with or otherwise taking advantage of an actual Shadow Vice of Envy). Born in Fillydelphia, but grew up in Canterlot as one of Celestia's special students; showed a deep understanding of Starswirl the Bearded's most powerful magics. She went mad and committed acts of warlockry developing the Spell of Sameness out of Starswirl the Bearded's unfinished spell. Her talent is destiny and temporal magic. Her fate is as yet unknown, but probably involves an incredibly-dangerous attempt at revenge by attempting to create an unfixed but stablizing time loop, with a fair chance of destructive Paradox. Not currently resident in Our Town; her old home there winds up demolished to create a town memorial.

Double Diamond: The white Earth Pony stallion who is an expert skier, Starlight Glimmer's former right-hoof pony and probable ex-lover, who eventually becomes the next mayor of Our Town and marries Night Glider. His true talent is seeing and avoiding obstacles in his path. After the extension of the railroad, he opens a ski resort and encourages an influx of tourists to Our Town.

Night Glider: The dark Pegasus (probably part thestral) mare who has excellent night-vision and is a strong, fast and silent flier. She was the leader of the Pegasi air search team under Starlight Glimmer, and becomes the leader of the Search, Rescue and Weather Team under Double Diamond, whom she marries.

Party Favor: The light blue Unicorn party pony stallion who can manfiest balloons from partyspace and make pretty much anything out of them. Originally of a highly-respected Canterlot family of gentry mages; tried to create a new art form with his balloons but met professional rejection, went to Our Town to try to build a new life away from the larger society. The best friend of Sugar Belle, whom he marries some time after Our Town's liberation.

Sugar Belle: The pink unicorn baker who specializes in making sweet cakes and other pastries. Owner of Sugary Sweets, a cafe which after the liberation serves cakes, pies, cupcakes, (good) muffins, tea, coffee, soft drinks and shakes, and after the extension of the railway becomes popular with the tourist crowds. Originally from Fillydelphia; opened a pastry shop there which failed in competition with a chain store. She falls in love with and marries her best friend, Party Favor.

Check Mate: An intelligent, logical, cunning and perhaps ruthless unicorn stallion who is talented with chess and probably other strategy games. Respected for his intellect, but not entirely trusted, because the others fear that he wants to play Xanatos Chess with them. Far too interested in learning the details of exactly how the Spell of Sameness worked, and may have originally come to town in search of Starlight Glimmer for sinister motives.

Sunny Glasses: A charismatic, laid-back pegasus stallion who loves to fly by day, and is the other leader (with Night Glider) of the Pegasi in town. Excellent day vision.

Dancing Leaf: A rather aristocratic and refined unicorn mare, who is fond of nature and likes to dance. Some look up to her due to her mannerisms, but others consider her irresponsible and silly. Came to Our Town to evade the social maneuvering of the Canterlot gentry.

Civil Servant: An older Earth Pony stallion with graying mane and pouches under his eyes. He was a Canterlot bureaucrat who got sick of the constant jockeying for power, and for that reason originally joined Starlight Glimmer. He knows how to formulate legislation, and helps reorganize the town after its liberation. He becomes Double Diamond's trusted advisor.

Quick Quill: A unicorn stallion with bright blue coat and eyes. A writer and philosopher. He has political ambitions in Our Town, and is one of the group who help run the town after its liberation.

Archive Record: Stallion. A bibliophile. Starts the first library in Our Town, its core collection being the books which Starlight Glimmer left behind. I wonder if Starlight Glimmer left any other written records of interest behind during her precipitious flight?

Brilliant Cut: Light blue unicorn mare with purple and silver mane and three-diamond cutie mark. Dissatisfied by the jewelry business, she came to Our Town to get away from retail drudgery and inexplicable exchange rates. Her talent is actually more geologically oriented, and she will go on to explore the nearby caves, mapping them and finding several valuable veins of minerals and crystals. Altercations with local Diamond Dogs possible.

Open Mike: Tan earth pony stallion with brown and orange mane, seen here, with a talent for vocal performance, especially with minimal to no musical accompaniment. Never made his big break and, feeling unfulfilled, was easily swayed to Starlight's cause. After the sundering of the Vault, he was tasked with writing songs that would get Starlight's anthem out of everypony's heads and will become one of the primary ponies who make life in Our Town worth living.

Dashing Cape: A hearty, jovial tan-coated Earth Pony stallion with dark brown mane and green eyes. Talented designer of capes, cloaks and mantles; when these fell out of fashion he sought to build a new life in a new town. The Sameness suppressed his talent; he made vaguely-rectangular cloaks out of sackcloth, to Rarity's horror. After liberation he regains his fashion-design skills and makes winter capes for the tourist trade. He partners with Garter Stitch.

Garter Stitch: Unicorn mare, a skilled seamstress whose talent lies in making lingerie, including (gasp) knit socks. She goes into business with Dashing Cape and sells garments to the tourist trade. Garter Stitch has a sly and insinuating sense of humor.

Blank Scroll: A stationer. Sells specialty quills and inks, in addition to various papers and parchments.

Amber Locks: Earth pony mare, a hairdresser. Strongly nonconformist and opinionated. Very glad of liberation, even more so than most of the residents of Our Town.

Amaranthine: A blue unicorn filly.

Orange Blossom: A yellow Earth Pony filly.

Grey Blossom: Younger brother of Orange Blossom, he is a gray Earth Pony colt.

Opal: A very young purple Earth Pony filly, for a while after liberation at age 6-7 the youngest child in Our Town (because Starlight Glimmer failed to induce the Equal Ponies to mate and breed). Unlike Opalescence, not a cat.

Wheat Stalk, Lettuce Leaf: Two Ponies about which we know nothing save that they are fairly recent immigrants; they probably came either right before or right after the liberation.

COMMENTS: There were originally 12 multi-Pony dwellings in Equal Town, each of them two stories plus an attic under a rather steeply-pitched roof (northern mountain winters, you know). Given the rather Spartan nature of the Society of Sameness, there may easily been a hundred or so Ponies living in that town. I listed 23 here, one of whom is Starlight Glimmer and was living in the larger 13th house, probably on her own. There may well be another 80 or so Ponies in the town -- 1/20th or less Ponyville's population, but enough for some variety. And the town grows after liberation.
