I do think that asking people to write something will get lots of people saying that they will, but not actually going through with it since writing is hard.

How about (since it's October) a scavenger hunt contest for the least original (or perhaps just plain worst) horror stories? There are approximately one hundred million terrible Cupcakes and Rainbow Factory type stories, including Cupcakes and Rainbow Factory.
