Advanced Lessons by dungeonguy88 does some interesting things with not just one, but three characters.

Celestia and Chrysalis are given a history together, and more than that, a relationship that's grown and changed over their long, long lives, and with good reasons. Not exactly a friendship, but, well... if you're an immortal ruler, of course you'll develop feelings of one sort or another for someone who's been a familiar face over the centuries. Everyone draws some measure of comfort from consistency, after all.

Which raises some interesting questions about the Wedding Invasion...

Blueblood doesn't show up until late into chapter two, and although he doesn't get a lot of focus, still gets quite a few hints about a broader, and still flawed, history. He's an explorer, who braves the uncharted lands around Equestria partly for his love of exploring and partly because he also thinks Canterlot is filled with stuck-up snobs. Some of how he behaves is him trying to give them a taste of their own medicine, but some of it is still genuine snootiness on his part (he is a prince, after all). He's also the author of a popular series of books, under a pen name, and it's not Daring Do!

If nothing else, Chrysalis used to be afraid of brussel sprouts. Can't get much deeper than that! :trollestia:

So, what do YOU think?

3405531 It seems like two stories in one. One is about Celestia and Chrysalis and the other is about Blueblood. Maybe they should be 2 stories.

Maybe if more focus had been given to Blueblood, that'd be true. As it's written, the story is very much about Celestia, Chrysalis and their relationship; the other characters are there to support the story.

Twilight, although the point of view character, is mostly present as an observer and a call to action, and Blueblood is very much a secondary character. The hidden depths he's given are entirely background, presented to justify the character without really having an impact on the current plot. (Why are we bringing Blueblood into this? He discovered the Changelings during his explorations. Why would we put up with his behavior? He's not really that bad; here's why.)

So, to clarify my earlier analysis, Advanced Lessons explores the hidden depths of Celestia and Chrysalis, and hints at some hidden depths for Blueblood.
