I suppose I should mention my ancestor then: Col. William Sooy Smith of the 13th Ohio, he fought at Antietam and marched with Sherman to the Sea. Retired as a general and made a name for himself as an civil engineer designing foundations for light houses on the Great Lakes and the first all steel span across the Missouri (and the world as well)
