The Lord Jesus performed many miracles; healing the sick, multiplying bread and fish to feed thousands, banishing demons and raising the dead to life. Christians celebrate Him as the Son of God, as the Second Person of the Holy Trinity that is God, and as the returning King of the world.

But how often do we see Him as fully human as well as fully God?

Jesus is "the Word [that became] flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). He grew tired (Matthew 8:24), He was hungry (Matthew 4:2), and He often went about without a house to live in (Matthew 8:20). He was compassionate, healing social outcasts and even inviting one, Matthew, into His group of 12 disciples (Matt. 9:9-13, Mark 2:13-17, Luke 5:27-28). He saw children, not as pests to be silenced, but as creations of God to be welcomed into a sinless kingdom (Mark 10:13-15). He was afraid (terrified might be more like it) of his oncoming death (Matthew 26:37-38), and forgave His enemies upon the cross (Luke 23:34). In His resurrection, talked to and ate a meal with a couple of dispirited followers (Luke 24:13-32), and He came to the disciples and let them touch Him to prove He was really there (Luke 24:39), even eating a piece of fish to further prove it (Luke 24:41-43).

The writer of Hebrews wrote, "For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15 ASV). In other words, the Lord Jesus was, in every way, fully human as well as fully God. While hating and not tolerating sin, He sympathizes with our problems and tussles and difficulties. He was, and is, approachable; while we should be reverent and respectful, our Lord wants us in His kingdom (Luke 12:32), and that implies a wonderful covenant friendship the likes of which we probably cannot fully understand on this Earth.

Because He is fully human, Christ can sympathize with our struggles. Because He is God, He can save us from our sins and welcome us into His glorious kingdom, if only we accept His gift of salvation and truly and wholeheartedly love Him.

Our God is an Awesome God, as one Christian song reminds us (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smZwG-auxC8). May Christ save us all through His death, resurrection, and heavenly love. Amen.

Thanks for reading this. May the Lord Jesus save, watch over, guide, and protect you all.
