ISSUE #1: Planting The Seeds of Hope

The streets of Manehatten were often mistakenly believed to be at their most dangerous when the sun went down and Luna's precious night provided a cover of darkness to the undesirables of the city, a blanket of security from within which they could conduct crimes out of view of the few good ponies in the lower areas of the city to stop them.

They were wrong. As any resident of Manehatten could tell you, the criminals were just one side of the problem...

Offloading a large carriage manned by two griffons, a group of rundown looking Earth Ponies clamored to the crates being unloaded, pushed back by the magical glows surrounding them from several well dressed unicorns that scowled at them for trying to get their product early, in particular one of them stood out above the others with a superbly disdainful look on his face.

Wordlessly one of the Earth Ponies who looked like he could form a coherent thought pressed a duffle bag on the stallion and then shuffled his way past; it was tempting to just take the money bag and shove them to the floor to sell their product for a higher value but the original buyer had suffered a nasty incident the week before from a certain vigilante that the group had been ordered to keep an eye out for and eliminate if given the chance.

"Come on come on, keep it moving!" One of the griffons barked, shoving one of the Earth Ponies so that he stumbled to the floor, clutching the box close. "We don't have all da-UGGH!"

The suited stallions turned in time to see a bizarre sight; it was dark in the alleyway but by all accounts it appeared that their griffon mercenaries for pulling the carriage had somehow been strung up from the fire escapes of the buildings on each side, thrashing against their bindings and trying to get their claws to a position to cut themselves free.

"Boss get us do-" One of them tried to yell out before the ropes seemed to come alive and wrap around his throat, choking him.

"Get them down, now!" The lead stallion demanded, one of the unicorns quickly lighting their horn and directing the impromptu spotlight at the two thrashing griffons, the Earth Ponies mostly scattering with as many boxes as they could carry.

"What in the name of Celestia...?" The lead stallion whispered to himself as he drew a pistol from inside his suit jacket, utterly mesmorised by the sight of the two griffons being restrained and gagged by a series of vines and thorns, growing impossibly out of two plantpots that had been left on someone's balcony.

"What's going on, how are they doing that, is this some kinda trick?!" Various shouts came from his cohorts as the lead stallion took aim to try and shoot one of the plantpots, the bullet hitting it directly and shattering it to pieces but still the impossibly large vines restrained the griffon.

He didn't waste a bullet trying to free the other though he was happy to hear that his men had apparently calmed down... but it soon dawned on him that they hadn't just stopped panicking, they had stopped making any sound altogether...

He somehow knew what he was going to see as he turned to see that, from the dead weeds between the cracks in the alleyway, a multitude of venus flytraps had sprouted and engulfed his men; occasionally the imprint of a hoof pounded against their leafy prison in an attempt to get out.

The stallion turned and took off at a run down the alleyway as one of the Earth Ponies he had been trying to deal with dropped his hood and moved with purpose after him, the grey, battered hood dropping to let loose a long mane composed of pink rose petals atop an indigo stallion whose eyes were full with the kind of rage that had been allowed to fester and boil over, and now would need a victim...
