I'm unsure how well this works, but since I've joined FiMFiction, when I find somepony new who's joined, I send them the Pinkie Pie "Welcome to Ponyville" clip along with well-wishes and hugs and an extended hoof of friendship (which some take and others leave).

Could this be one thing we all could do to help bring cheer and warm-welcome?
