That One Piece rp certainly got me thinking about some of the other anime that I loved, and thought about making MLP related crossovers for. Bleach being premier among them as my favorite action anime. So, for pure funsies, I've been debating whether to try a FoE crossover of Bleach, either just as a simple rp to play around with, or a short story of some sort. I probably wouldn't be writing it as a story anytime soon, as I got too many projects on my plate as is, but I could probably try setting up an rp of it if there was any interest. So right now I'm just testing the waters to see how many folk here have even heard of Bleach, or possess any familiarity with it, or interesting in seeing how to cross it over with FoE.

The main thing I know about Bleach is that everyone is so crazy over powered that they could sneeze in the general direction of any other protagonist from anything ever and the other person would just explode. Never really could get into it because of that. I like my protagonists moderately over powered not insanely. But I do understand the appeal. But since I really don't understand it all that well I'm not sure how to transition it into FoE.

*shrugs* Really, in comparison to the vast number of other action oriented anime, Bleach isn't all that over the top in terms of power. It's about on par with One Piece in terms of overall level of power the characters have. But I suppose that's an entirely different kind of discussion for a different time. I'll give a quick rundown on the world, then how I might switch things up for FoE.

Okay, so in Bleach, when a person dies, their soul doesn't automatically cross over to a restful sleep in the afterlife, but instead lingers, and requires guidance to be sent along its merry way. This guidance comes from the Shinigami, or Soul Reapers. This is important because if a Shinigami fails to find a soul and guide it to the afterlife, that soul, called a Whole, inevitably becomes corrupt and transforms into a being known as a Hollow.

Hollows, in their base form, are bestial and driven to consume other souls, Wholes, or other Hollows, doesn't matter. If they manage to consume enough souls a Hollow will combine with other Hollows to evolve into a stronger form, known as a Gillian-class Hollow. These creatures usually end up being drawn to a lower spirit realm called Hueco Mundo, where Hollows gather in number and exist to hunt and devour each other. The Hollow evolutionary process continues from there, but we'll get into the higher states of Hollow later.

For now let's get back to the Shinigami. Shinigami are souls that, in the afterlife, have either a high natural amount of "Reiatsu" or "spirit pressure" which makes them good candidates to train to control that energy. The Shinigami train various souls that have such talent to join their ranks, and to wield the weapon of the Shinigami; the Zanpaktou.

Zanpaktou are weapons, taking the form of swords (usually katana, but variants exist), that possess their own unique spirits, which bond with and grow in strength alongside their Shinigami. In their sealed state a Zanpaktou is just a sword that can used against Hollows to purify their spirit, but over time a Shinigami can, through communication with their Zanpaktou learn the sword's name and a release phrase that activates a transformation in the blade that grants it and its Shinigami new powers.

This first release is called Shikai. Normally the Zanpaktou goes through a physical change, becoming at times and entirely different kind of weapon than a sword, other times just changing into a different shaped blade. Either way the powers granted by Shikai are... highly varied. Some have elemental attacks, such as Ruikia's Sode no Shiraiyuki which can create pillars and blasts of ice, while other powers are more unusual such as Kira's Waibiske, which doubles the weight of any object it strikes and does so over and over again for each strike it lands (this means if he hits you, your weight doubles, making it harder for you to move... a very One Piece like power, really).

Most Shinigami never progress beyond this point. They learn other powers, like the Shinigami spells known as Kido, and developing techniques involving their spirit energy such as the Shunpo (Flash Step) that let's them move at high speed.

However there are a few rare Shinigami that develop a deeper bond with their Zanpaktou, and are able to release the Zanpatou's full power in a form known as Bankai. In this state the Zanpaktou transforms again, taking on a new form that could literally be anything, from a massive creature to simply a different looking blade; but regardless of the shape it takes all Bankai grant their Shinigami a much more powerful version of the base Shikai abilities, usually alongside new ones. Bankai is rare enough that out of thousands of Shinigami, only the Captains leading the 13 Court Guard Divisions (or Gotei 13) and a handful of unusually powerful Lieutenants achieve it.

The Shinigami, as mentioned above, are organized into 13 divisions, like military regiments, that serve different functions in protecting the Soul Society, the organized version of the afterlife where the souls of the dead reside and are looked over by the Shinigami. Each division is trained for combat, but still serve slightly different functions; like the 4th Divisions which is mostly a medical corps, and the 12th Division, which is focused upon research. The afterlife functions remarkably like real life, and people "live" and "die" much like their physical-world counterparts. When a soul "dies" in the afterlife, its form merges with the spirit energy of that world, to eventually be reborn into the physical world. The primary role of the Shinigami is to ensure this cycle of souls remains balanced, for if too many souls end up residing in the afterlife, or too many souls are lost to the Hollows, the physical world and the spirit world will collapse in upon each other and be destroyed.

This is why Shinigami fight Hollows, purifying their souls with their Zanpaktou, because if too many souls become Hollows, or were consumed by Hollows, the balance between the spirit world and the world of the living would be lost.

So... how could any of this be applied to Fallout Equestria?

Well, not simply, but its doable, if one tackles it from the position that this is how the afterlife worlds in the My Little Pony universe, and supposes that perhaps the Alicorns Celestia and Luna are in fact Shinigami. The difference between the Shinigami in Bleach and the ones in MLP would be that, because Equestria is such a peaceful and generally bright, shiny realm, the Shinigami went out of their way to try to maintain that by having two of their Captains, Luna (who I would put in charge of the 2nd Division, which is focused on reconnaissance) and Celestia (in charge of 1st Division and the Captain-Commander of the Shinigami), be physically in the living world. Here, Alicorn-hood is the result of specially created bodies that Celestia and Luna inhabit that let them express their Shinigami powers without the need for summoning their Zanpaktou (they could still do this, but to maintain the pretense of them being special pony Princesses it's easier to not have to utilize thier blades and just use their 'Alicorn magic').

This whole affair worked out nicely, up until Luna went Nightmare Moon. That incidient I'm thinking can correlate to an incident from Bleach, where one of the Captains, Aizen, betray's Soul Society by trying to create Hollow/Shinigami hybrids by experimenting on several Shinigami, and creating half-Hollow beings called Vizards. This would happen in the MLP version as well, with a ponified Captain similar to Aizen, who used Luna as the target of his Vizard experiment; and Nightmare Moon is actually Luna's Vizard form, when her inner-Hollow takes over.

Anywhose, Celestia boots Luna to the moon, thousand years go by, Elements of Harmony (possibly another Shinigami created weapon, or just a mysterious seperate form of power, as magic still exists as a seperate thing from Shinigami power in this universe) do their thing and purify Luna; Equestria goes back to normal.

Until the zebras get uppity.

Now here's where FoE itself comes into play. You see Equestria has been at peace for so long, really the Shinigami have no idea how to handle the kind of influx of death that's caused by a war.

And because they have a strict policy of letting Celestia and Luna handle mortal world affairs, the rest of the Shinigami just sort of hang back and wait to see how those two handle things. Problem is, while Celestia is powerful, and the Captain-Commander of the Shinigami, she can't bring herself to call in the Shinigami to interfer with the zebra. When she abdicates the throne to Luna, she also cedes her position as Captain of the 1st Division and gives control of Soul Society to Luna. However, while Luna wants the Shinigami to be used against the zebra, this is held up for two main reasons.

1) With the death of literally hundreds of thousands of soliders, the Shinigami are stretched thin just trying to deal with guiding so many souls to Soul Society, and fighthing off the huge rise in Hollows that results in the Shinigami not being able to keep up with the death toll. On top of that, more powerful Hollows are appearing, making things even harder on them.

2) The zebra have developed their own anti-Hollow and anti-Shinigami warriors: The Quincy. Quincy are zebras who use alchemic talisman to control spirit particles to create weapons, most often bows and arrows. Quincy techniques don't purify Hollows, sending the soul to the afterlife, but instead destroy them outright. This is very dangerous for the balance of the world, but the zebra or their Quincy warriors don't know this, and exterminate Hollows and Shinigami alike with equal prejudiced.

So the Shinigami are too tied up and stretchered thin for Luna to make much use of them during the war with the zebra, and things go down as seen in FoE.

Megaspells fall, everypony dies. Well, not everypony, but you get the picture.

So... two hundred years later.

The world is as seen in FoE, but with a major difference. The constant influx of death has created even more Hollows. While Raiders and Wastelanders fight for survival, another war is occuring in the spirit world. Shinigami, stretched to the breaking point, and bereft of Celestia and Luna's leadership, fight a losing war against ever more Hollows that appear to consume the souls of the constant stream of death that result from the Wasteland's existence. The situation is so bad that the Shinigami have begun to search even for living ponies with unusual amounts of spirit energy to become "Shinigami Representatives", living ponies who are granted Zantaktou of their own to help fight against the Hollows.

If I did this in an RP, chances are I'd have people playing the role of living characters who are being watched and recruited by the Shinigami. Its also possible to play a Zebra Quincy.

So, uh, any of this sound plausible so far?

I'd try the RP (just as long as you make sure nobody's running around like a moron for two days because that's not fun). Maybe just do a one-shot about some Shinigami to test the waters and see how others respond.

Hey I had an idea that's either genius, incredibly stupid, or both. You ever hear about a show called Reaper (if not its on Netflix)? It's about a guy whose parents sell him to the devil he wasn't been born yet and the doters said his father was infertile so they thought it'd be alright). So anyway he basically acts like the Devils bounty hunter hunting down souls that have escaped from hell. You thinking what I'm thinking? If not I'll explain it.

I've heard of the show, but I haven't seen any episodes. If you're thinking of trying a similar character, that could work, with the right adjustments. Mainly in the Bleach universe Hell is kind of self-regulating. The way it works is that, when a soul becomes a Hollow, and is purified by a Shinigami wielding a Zanpaktou, the soul usually just goes to Soul Society to live and in time be reborn; but if that soul was particularly evil, by committing atrocities such as murder, then that soul instead ends up in Hell. In Bleach, Hell is a place where the souls of quote en quote "Sinners" are repeatedly hunted and "killed" by Hell's guardians, over and over again until they become integrated into Hell's spiritual makeup. It has no ruler, and ts guardians are mostly constructs without any apparent mind of their own. However, the Sinners are actually capable of fighting back, and gaining power manifesting from their sins, and can even escape Hell under the right circumstances... so it stands to reason the Shinigami might have a group of specialists who are specifically trained to track down and capture escaped Sinners.

If you're curious, watch the Hell Verse movie, that goes into it.

That said, if you got a totally different idea, I'm all ears. I'm still working out how to do this RP.

I'm thinking that either the players should start off as normal FoE characters going about their daily business, and then I hit you guys with the Bleach stuff, encountering Hollows for the first time, and then have you guys be recruited by the Shinigami. Or I start you off as already being Shinigami, fighting against Hollows, but also getting caught up in events of FoE to one degree or another. Another possibility, since it really is just rp, is roleplaying as LittlePip herself and her friends, only their adventures being interrupted by the advent of Hollows and the interference of Shinigami.

Also, if I run an rp, would you want it fairly freeform, or would you want me to perhaps work out some sort of very basic rule system and incorporate character creation and stats and the like?

You basically got my idea. I need to look up if there's any crossovers now because that would be entertaining. The main thing of difference is that he had a vessel what he needed to catch them in. But it was never clear how like the first guy had electrical powers (because apparently being in hell gave them powers :derpyderp2:) and the vessel was an RC car. Well when he tried to ram it into him it just exploded but in the end he realized he needed to use controller as a Lightning rod. Then after capturing the souls he had to return them. Any place that's Hell on Earth would work. He usually used the DMV.
As for the RP I'd say just have them be normal PnP characters until stuff goes down (gives me a chance to brush off Crosscut the ghoul with a combat knife who still hates Zebras with a passion).
As for how well that's all up to you.
