Since they've lost the Elements of Harmony as the chief weapondefense of Equestria, they may need to be searching for new ones. I have a feeling I need to write something where they at least name drop the Manehatten Project...

yes, yes...

But... WHERE IS CHRYSALYS WITH HER DEATH RAY?

~Twi

Hmmm If this was just Science it would be simple. But with magic, the possibilities for super weapons are endless. I mean With some focus, Celestia could launch a focused beam of sunlight to disintegrate anything.

Let's be honest -- even the English longbow represents an increase in technology for the royal guard.
Too bad they don't have fingers... :derpytongue2:

"Yeessss ... cryssstalsss!!!"

Make a solid-state laser.

The problem with the star-pumped laser is a scale thing. I ran the numbers once. (sci-fi RPG stuff). .01% of our suns energy output for one second, converted to a laser and delivered to Earth would dump slightly less than the same energy as the Chicxulub Crater impact released.
That's 6 orders of magnitude more energy than the largest nuclear bomb ever exploded.
(IIrc I came up with 80 Teratons. 80,000,000 megatons)
That's playing with a LOT of energy.

However the ability to reach up and drop somewhat smaller rocks out of orbit would be very handy.

I think that "Doc" Smith's sunbeam diverted a greater fraction of the total solar output, but it's been a while since I've read the later books of the Lensman series.

I think that Equestrian technology is perfectly up to the job of making firearms. I think they're just at the single-shot muzzle-loading smoothbore phase, and for that reason not very effective personal weapons.

"Fledging" (click the aforementioned title for the link), chapter 2 of All the Way Back, includes in passing a multi-paragraph analysis of at least some Equestrian personal weapons. Tell me what you think of it.

Well Lensman is a whole new classification of boom. I think at the end they're flinging around what would today be described as degenerate matter (neutron star material) planet sized bodies into target planets from 6 different directions at multiple times the speed of light. They may have also been mixing matter and antimatter planets.

One of the reason I came up with the above numbers was I was trying to figure out how much power something like the Death Star needed to blow an Earth sized planet to fragments. Assuming they're just dumping energy and nothing exotic is going on (my friend insisted they had to be doing something like causing the central core of the planet to collapse and fusion things like the iron in the core) breaking the gravitational binding energy of an Earth sized world takes delivering energy equivalent to the the total power output of our sun for roughly 10 days.

Equestria has helium or some other thing to make ballons float. whitch is probaly compressed and if the end part breaks it will end up sending the tube with enough power to break concrete. there were fireworks in a episode whitch can be used as IEDs. compressed helium or other compressed air fashioned with a stell tube connected at the nozzle. they could make a magazine type thing and connect to part of the tube. and make a compresed air MG. pinkies cannon filled with nails could hurt someone.
