To the extent of manipulating various psychic powers...
Stage FINAL~
—Boss; BGM: Last Occultism ~ Esotericist of the Present World

Spell Card: *Esoteric Seven of Profound Secrets*
Easily the most badass character in the series appearing in games lately, save for Mokou. Fitting, that the two are friends.
Her theme.... I love it so much. It makes me tear up each time I listen to it.
Expose the Esoteric! The Secret Sealing Club's First President

"You ought to watch out, yourself.
Even a high-school girl can make her own
weapons these days, after all...
[...]
Allow me to inform you,
miss visitor from another world.
It's the strongest, most invincible kind of
creature in the entire outside world!"
~Usami Sumireko
---------------------------------------------------
"Do you think that classical, behind-the-times youkai
like yourselves can stand up to this era's humans
and their collective knowledge?
[...]
There's nothing to fear from the mysterious.
In this day and age, even children can make
whole collections of youkai.
Know the power of human intelligence!
And thus...
Lament the small, narrow world
that you've been shut inside!"
~Usami Sumireko
---------------------------------------------------
"As I thought,
everyone in Gensokyo just wants to fight.
And they all look down on their opponents too.
So which is gonna win:
the wisdom of humanity,
or a devil born of distortion?
I won't be satisfied until I've tested this!"
~Usami Sumireko
---------------------------------------------------
"The death of this high school
girl you cornered will surely
remain in your memory!
Ah, what a beautiful death.
What a worthwhile death.
[...]
My final night in the Human World will be...

Etched into the depths of your genes!"
~Usami Sumireko

The most badass from recent games (obviously excluding Mokou as she is the pinnacle of this)? Excuse me but Sukuna has the be the (second) most badass character, just look at the gif on the front page comments~ :derpytongue2:

She's up there, but kind of falls short due to losing to Ichirin, and being chased by Sumireko. Also, it's just silly not to account for the strength of the person who have all the Occult Balls when you plan to take them all at once.

(Sukuna being top tier badass was meant sarcastically darling~)

I would actually call up Miko in the fighter games with her cape, her whole silhouette and fighting style I find quite badass~
(though without her cape I don't find her nearly as interesting to be honest).

I'm personally quite interested in seeing if Yukari and Surimeko will interact in some manga or somewhere else, since the two are both quite similar to Maribel and Renko respectively. That reminds me that I should catch up on the music CD stories around Maribel and Renko~

A human from the outside world, strangely enough, strong enough to be the final boss. At some point during her childhood, she started thinking she was a special individual, more worth than her peers. To a degree, she was; having delved into the occult and learnt of its secrets. When she attended high school, many people were drawn to her. She disliked the attention, and was of the belief that friends were somethings only people who needed them should have, so she decided to scare them away, creating an unauthorised club for the occult. She succeeded in driving away anyone who thought to be her friend.

But, the club would soon serve another purpose. Whilst on her lonesome, she happened upon a world of fantasy, of things most forgotten and magical. She started going to that world, ever so often, punching a hole in the barrier that separated it from this world. She learnt of the humans and the youkai who lived there, separate but in co-existence. She learnt of the gods and monsters that walked the same earth as humans. She learnt of the magic that encompassed the land, and she learnt of the everlasting peace that was kept through a beautiful kind of strife. She wanted to know even more, so upon one visit, she spread various artefacts that she had collected, infused with her own power, and along them spread the rumour that if someone collected seven of these, they would be able to have their wish granted. In reality, it was a ruse to spirit them away to the Outside, so she could learn more about that wonderful world.

She did not know she was threatening the peace of Gensokyo, nor the significance of the barrier. That world's inhabitants did not take kindly to the threat, and eventually, they punished her with a trick; trapped to live a terrible night within Gensokyo.

However, this girl's naive scheme would prove to be a part of the design of someone else. Reimu realised that one of those stones was neither from Outside, nor from Gensokyo. If it was used, it would open a path to another place. It would connect Earth with the Lunar Capital. Reimu confronted the high schooler, who was so shaken by that night, convinced that someone had come to finally bring an end to her. In a last desperate attempt to escape, she opted to use the power of all Power Stones, and sacrifice her own life to tear down the barrier for good.

After having been defeated, the lunar stone could not be stopped. But, the barrier was safe, and Sumireko was finally returned home. Yet, a new connection had been opened. Every time she slept, she would dream of Gensokyo. She would become a story-teller, effectively a resident of Gensokyo herself. Finally, the girl saw the value of friendship.

The Secret Sealing Club's first president, she is the ancestor of one Renko Usami, who would later join it in the broken future of Earth...
Her abilities include being capable of pyrokinesis, telekinesis, psychokinesis, teleportation and astral projection.

(I see. She is somewhat badass though. She talks the most trash, and besides those little fails I mentioned, she can follow it up.)
I forgot about Miko. Yeah, she's there too, but she's the subdued kind of badass, fitting for an authority figure such as the crown prince. Sumireko is just... she's strong enough to be a final boss despite being a normal human, lost to half the playable cast and can still beat up Ichirin and a number of characters in her own scenario, then still returns with a Last Spell in the last story mode.
I'd like to see more of Sumireko myself.:3

Also, another interesting thing I learnt about; according to a quote by ZUN, Reimu and Marisa are both kind of last boss level. Considering Reimu has been a last boss a number of times, that does make sense. That means Sumireko has fought and defeated a number of last bosses throughout the game, including Miko, and possibly Reimu herself off-screen after the prologue.

Mamizou is actually also up there on the badass ladder, with how prominent she is and a position in a lesser extent similar to Yukari.

Reimu and Marisa are final boss level, but in their own way. Marisa has a lot of different attacks and a lot of power to back them up, but she in turn suffers from a lack of depth to her move, so a highly intelligent person, if they can dodge the onslaught of her attacks, can combat her. Reimu however is far more in depth with her moves and far more intricate. She does in turn however lack some firepower, so one that that can "defeat her before they are defeated" can combat her. This does mean that both are very powerful to the general person however, they are weak however to specialists~

Of course, the mastermind among the tanuki. :3
That makes sense, though I recall you mentioning they both represent two principles; innovation, the constant perfection of techniques and methods versus sticking with what works, the already perfect technique.

Yes, resending.

4544987
Actually, you sort of mixed up the progressive and traditional as I said it.
Reimu does not have many new techniques as games progress, but she can implement what she knows very fluidly because she is practiced in it.
Marisa on the other hand constantly has new moves and things to show off, but she doesn't spend much time using each move fluidly, because they are strong enough until they are figured out. Then it's time to find new ones again, safe for a few dependable ones.
Reimu uses the knowledge of her past to endure long times, while Marisa keeps making new things to keep swiftly bring the future~

Yeah, that was something like what I meant to say. Thank you for making it clearer.:twilightsheepish:
