In the ancient irradiated fallout-infested land of Boardor, near the eastern border of the Neon Sea, there is an area known as the Smog- a piece of land polluted by thick, poisonous clouds of gas, carcinogenic if breathed. However, a few creatures manage to survive even here, and among them is the equine race known as the Smog Dweller.

Smog Dwellers can essentially be considered "natural-born smokers" in a low-temperature environment. Their nostrils filter out impurities, they possess self-cleaning lungs, their eyes are equipped with a nictitating membrane to prevent irritation, their small ears cut down on loss of body heat, and they have an immunity to heart disease, lung cancer, and thrombosis.

Smog Dwellers rarely leave the Smog, which protects them from many of Boardor's predators and hostile tribes.

While Smog Dwellers rarely leave their native area, on the occasions that one becomes adventurous, they always leave with a special weapon known as a Battle Hookah.

While the Smog Dwellers themselves are immune to the smog around their native area, they realize most other creatures do not have the same resistance to the noxious clouds, and so have weaponized it by storing it in canisters. A hose connects to the canisters on the saddle, they breathe in, then blow a cloud out their nostrils, smothering attackers in a thick, blinding, choking fog.
