Many assume that shape-shifters such as changelings are the ultimate infiltrators produced by the equine family. Those a bit more knowledgeable assume that that title belongs to the enigmatic Shadow Doppelganger. However, there is an equine species that is a master infiltrator without the need for shape-shifting.

Most of what we know about the Johrlac has come from splinter groups attempting to seek a more peaceful coexistence with their non-Johrlac kin. However, it should be noted that these splinter groups are not very common as of yet, and most Johrlac are incredibly dangerous

The Johrlac are ambush predators, infiltrators, and destroyers on a level that is almost unknown in other species. As a species, they are more homogeneous than ponies; all Johrlac possess pale coats, dark manes and tails, and unnaturally blue eyes. People tend to remember them as attractive. Given that they are telepathic and manipulate the perceptions of those around them, this is questionable.

Johrlac are both projective and receptive telepaths. This wouldn't be such a problem if they didn't constantly project a field of "I belong here." A Johrlac who breaks into your home will be your sister, your husband, your parent, or your child in a matter of seconds. Peaceful Johrlac say that this impulse can be controlled to a small degree, but will activate automatically if an individual is stressed or frightened, indicated when their eyes glow. Very few of them can control it. Very few ever bother to try.

The standard hunting pattern of the Johrlac is simple. They isolate their prey and become part of their lives, convincing their victims that they not only belong, they have always belonged. This accomplished, they will drain those victims of all resources, often causing intentional chaos immediately before leaving those victims to suffer the consequences. They don't eat flesh, but in a very real way, they eat lives.

It has been proposed by some more peaceful members of the species that all Johrlac are born insane, not because of any biological impulse, but because their mothers were telepathic, and their mothers were insane. Some has tested this theory on their "adopted" (aka removed from their more violent parents) children, removing the majority of the pre-natal damage from their minds. The result has consistently been sane, stable, relatively functional individuals. Unfortunately, this is not a solution which can be implemented on a wide scale.

As it stands, Johrlac have a very low birth rate, largely because they seem to dislike each other almost as much as those aware of their existence dislike them.

When facing the Johrlac, it is best to remember three things. One, that your life means nothing to them. Two, that they can- and will, given the slightest opportunity- make themselves the center of your world. And three, that they will not regret anything they choose to do to you.
