A small, isolationist country that is more or less literally shaped like a Yak's head, Yakyakistan is as close as many in the new world can get to true Yak culture without travelling all the way to the Sky Mountains and their surrounding area.

Yakyakistan was founded by Yak travellers who wished to seek their future in the new world. Like the three founding pony tribes of Equestria, these bovines made their way across Mustikk, forgoing the quicker but far more dangerous trip by sea.

However, the yaks had further to travel. It is commonly accepted that the original three tribes were Stirropean in origin, and so could easily travel north and then west before reaching the new world and founding Equestria (and most of the other "pony" countries in Equus).

However, the Yaks needed to first get out of their homeland- the highest mountain range in the world, before crossing other countries and finally reaching Mustikk. It's possible they traveled on Manchuria's silk road for the majority of this trip.

However they did it, they finally came to Equus and established their own country on the largest plateau in what would later be named the Crystal Mountains, and there they set up their "home away from home"

Yaks here are no different than their relatives in Khaan, meaning that they are steeped in tradition to a violently perfectionist level, and in spite of having a king, they are a matriarchal society. While the males will butt heads and quarrel out of pride or boredom, none are arrogant or stupid enough to think for a moment that while the papa's the head of their house, and while a bull is in charge in his trade, his wife or spouse is the one who commands the home. And while not as... showing in their weight throwing as the males, females have no problem with a good show of force to sort out a problem.

Interestingly, the mountains surrounding Yakyakistan are also home to a large old-world monkey species known as the Yeti Macaque (Kang Admi in the Yak's native language, and only distantly related to true Yetis). These are normally found in the Yak's native homeland in the Sky Mountains, where they are used as guard animals. However, the Yeti Macaques of Yakyakistan are feral, and most likely descended from guard beasts who simply got loose.
