A thread was made a while back saying that the production crew originally wanted Spike to like Fluttershy rather than Rarity and now regets the change. With character development, do you think it is too late in the series to create this shipping. I actually like this shipping. I can see Spike going to Fluttershy's cottage and helping her with her animals and with all of his praise and advances, Fluttershy's shy nature would be used a lot as well as a lot of blushes.

Definitely, Spikes helpfulness and caring nature never really did suit right with Rarity. She seems like someone who would go for someone with more bravado, E.g Blueblood. And the first thing Fluttershy says to Spike is I love baby dragons are something along those lines haha.

When it comes to the show, Spike/Fluttershy shares one big issue with Spike/Rarity: The fact that the show is inconsistent about Spike's age and level of maturity. Of course, by now Spike/Rarity has a shitton of other issues added on top of that, but that's beside the point. The point is that the show's writers have good reason not to advance too far into this direction. Now I like Spike/Fluttershy in fanfiction as long as the author treats Spike as an adult. But when it comes to the show, the ambiguity (or rather inconsistency) is unfortunately already in play. The writers won't delve into that. The current status quo between Spike and Rarity is arguably already a bit far (especially since she shamelessly exploits his feelings).

I can't see any reason why the production staff doesn't explore this more, even if it's just like an episode or two where either Fluttershy or Spike gets bewitched at some point and starts having feelings for the other. Yeah, yeah, I know---that's already been done enough times that it's clichè--it can still be done in a way that it's not contrived and it's relatively done well.

Come on writers, go with that!! You've been around for six years now, I think that the writers have enough leeway now to take some chances, because we bronies will pick up on the things that little kids (the target audience) can't pick up.

Well, if you ask me, if Spike is a kid, the show's current status quo between him and Rarity is already at least a tad creepy. After all, it's not just him having a crush on her. She also regularly uses his feelings for her own advantage, and this paints her as irresponsible at best. If you ask me, Rarity should be honest with Spike and tell him that she isn't interested in him romantically. That would be the mature thing to do for her and for the writers, and it would open up new possibilities for character development for both her and Spike. I think the writers have really written themselves into a corner by now when it comes to Spike. They need to make a clear cut somewhere, and I think this is the best way to do it.

I always wanted the writers to have a episode with Spike and the other main 6 individually like they did with Rarity in Inspiration Manifestation.

I saw a potential Spike and Fluttershy episode during the episode Scare Master where instead of Fluttershy going off to scare her friends, she instead gets escorted by Spike through Ponyville on Nightmare Night in a failed attempt to get Fluttershy to like the holiday.

I really hope this episode comes out. I would love to see a really close bonding between Spike and Fluttershy, even tease at the possibility that they may like each other. Just something to rattle the brains of the fans.
