Queen Chrysalis takes center stage in this beautiful, tragic story. Burdened with the affairs of her kingdom, Chrysalis has neglected her mentally handicapped daughter, Pupa. But when the queen makes a terrible mistake, she is forced to face the consequences.

This is one of the best characterizations of Chrysalis I've read. It takes talent to make a character that readers will simultaneously hate and love. She is just fascinating to read. And the character of Pupa, her OC daughter, is inspired.

If you are searching for an emotionally powerful, sometimes heartbreaking story starring your favorite changeling queen, one that has terrific world building (changeling society is very well developed) and memorable characters, check out Maternal Instinct.
