I was wondering if any of you guys can help me with something.

So, in he story, the main charictor’s grandfather served in the Second World War as a piolet, and still flies to this day. My question is, what civilian plane was most common back in the late 40s and early 50s?

Also, can you give me a discription of the plane? I’m visually impaired, so... yeah.

Thanks.

What country is he from?

United States

Think Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, the end of the first scene where he escapes. If he had money, maybe one of the single-wing closed cockpit aircraft or some small 4 person craft.

The specifics probably aren't all that important in a story.

A good choice is a P51 Mustang. It was a very good fighter during the war, but after it ended the military sold alot of them for very cheap.

Piper Cubs or ERCO Ercoupes were popular after the war. You could actually buy a Ercoupe out of the Sears and Macy’s catalogs in 1946/47 and they were designed for wounded pilots coming back so they’re very simple planes.

Though it was a two pilot plane the C-47 (DC-3) was pretty common.
