2nd Competition: Short Poem, Long Lines (theme: Waiting)

WINNER: Aquillo

She’s late by half an hour.
I swivel in my chair, finger at my drink, then check my watch.
Now thirty five. It’s almost four.

I will not live so long
A raw forty minutes gone is nothing wasted.
That only ego has been lost.

That in this gambled forty five
I did not bet and lose a million ways
I could have chose to live.

And yet, I’m telling lies.

For we all have a promised something
That each day keeps us calmly waiting,
So certain bliss starts with its coming,

Whilst out there, life is running
