Greetings, folks. This is Mr. J back with another review for today. This afternoon, I will be reviewing the fourth installment of this series entitled: Open Season: Sacred Silly. This film serves as a direct sequel to the first movie while ignoring the events of the two previous sequels which would explain why we don't see Elliot's kids, the characters from the sequels, and why Shaw returned as the main antagonist. Nevertheless, I have utmost contempt for this hot pile of garbage. It amazes me that they managed to make another Open Season sequel and contain the exact same horrible quality the other films had. Are there people actually asking for more of these films? I mean, I'm sincerely curious if that is the case. Regardless, it is precisely what's wrong with the sequels on top of it being boring and meaningless.

This film is set in the Halloween season where the animals are scared from a possible sighting of a terrifying were-wolf. Shaw, now a tour guide, seeks revenge against Boog and Elliot and sees this as a big opportunity to get even with them. After convincing Gordy to bring back open season on the condition of only hunting the were-wolf, Shaw and his allies track down both it and his arch-enemies.

This was such a bore-fest to sit through. I could not stand the forced, cringe-worthy comedy, the terrible animation, and the sloppily-executed approach they went with for the story. Elliot scaring Boog just so that he could overcome his fears later on felt a little mean-spirited, and I hated how they spouted every cringey line while a serious scene is supposed to take place. Not to mention the number of butt jokes they littered throughout the film....and having Elliot eat squirrel shit for comedic effect.

The voice acting was both unbearable and irritating to listen to. Once again, they had to pick another voice actor for Boog who isn't Martin Lawrence. Why did they always keep picking a different voice actor for Boog in every sequel?! First Mike Epps, then Matthew J. Munn, and now Donny Lucas?! Not a single one of them were good in their role as Boog in the previous sequels, and neither did Donny Lucas. He barely put any heartfelt emotion in his voice whenever Boog was scared or sad or whatever; it sounded like he was voice acting in his bedroom and didn't want to wake up his parents in their house. The other actors (some of them whom I recognize) weren't even trying either for the other characters, not even Elliot or Shaw. Just horrible voice direction.

Speaking of Shaw, he felt like a complete joke in this entire movie. He lacked the intimidation factor he had in the first film and was treated as a try-hard circus clown than an actual threat. Sure, he has the same character traits from before, but he had neither fear, surprise, nor intimidation on his side; for if any one element is lacking, it would have been best for him to retreat out of this dumpster fire.

Lastly, I hated the final fight; that, to me, was legit the worst part of this whole thing. Remember how he tried to fight Boog in the first movie--how he held unto his back and later used his every resource to try to kill him in a way that...y'know...made sense? Here, Shaw effortlessly kicks Boog's ass in the most cartoonish, dumbest way possible, and Boog acted like this was his first time fighting him. Boog, you literally dominated and roared at his cowering face right after he shot at your friend! Tear that coward to shreds, you moron!! Primus, the final battle was embarrassingly stupid it's not even funny.

What else can I say of this shit? It is needless, worthless, and unfunny. This gets a 0/10! I said this before, and I'll say it again: they should have left off at the first movie and should've never made any sequel in the first place. Period.

Peace.

That settles it.

In the future, I’m only gonna review the first movie. All of the sequels will be among the movies I’m gonna skip, just like the Pink Panther sequels made after “Revenge of the Pink Panther”.

Please do so. The sequels will rot your brain like they did to mine.

If I were in charge of Scared Silly, I would’ve made a lot of changes, such as:

  • Taking place after Open Season 3, with Elliot and Giselle’s fawns and Ursa having roles in the movie.
  • Shaw retaining his intimidating relentlessness.
  • Have the first Open Season movie’s cast reprise their roles.
  • The final fight being grounded and slightly-realistic like in the first movie.
  • Give some butt jokes to Giselle and Ursa, and maybe even Bobbi (what? I’m a guy who’s got it bad for the female anatomy, so sue me).
  • Some call-backs, references, and fan service of the last three Open Season movies.

What funny is that I forget that this movie was even a thing till now
