Mystery Show/Book series you should see/read

I'm a big horror and mystery fan. If you like Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie, you will LOVE Nero Wolfe.

Here is the first episode of the best reproduction ever made of the Nero Wolfe Mysteries. Fantastic actors and faithful to the books. Wolfe is a recluse who NEVER leaves his house.

    Something Old, Something New

This story is very much one of its time. It comes from a time in FimFiction history where unwarranted abuse and violence against the main character was common, and the response to extreme abuse from that character was always undeserved forgiveness. The fact that we as a group, thought this was normal, deeply disturbs me as both a writer and a reader. But that is who we were as a fandom back then.

Examples of Common Character Flaws in Literature

Screwing around the internet like we all tend to do, I came across an interesting chart. A chart on character flaws. I have thought of character flaws, I think we all have, but I never put very much thought into it. The chart cut Character flaws into four distinct categories.

    Minor character flaws

    Major character flaws

    Fatal character flaws

The worst anime in history or, what YOU should avoid. · 6:49am Sep 9th, 2022

How great people made a dumpster fire and the worst anime in history OR, what YOU should avoid.

I like things that make you think about writing. What writers do right, what writers do wrong. Usually I don't come across very much, but I happened to come across this and it makes some good points by covering a Anime thats universally considered to be terrible and going over the mistakes the writers made. Some interesting points. Nothing earth shattering, but it did make me sit down and think a bit more deeply about my story structure.

I will say this. This isn't for seasoned writers. Seasoned writers already know these mistakes, BUT if you are a newer writer, this is a great breakdown on how an entire group of creators really created complete garbage. People with enough experience who should have known better.

Ah yes. This show.

Technically speaking, this is not an anime, but an American take on the anime formula. The story (from what I gather as I did not watch it myself) is rather bland.

Lots of shows like that. However, that wasn't what bugged me.

What truly got to me was just how lazy production was for something that was supposed to be mainstreamed produced. From sound to background it all seemed kind of phoned in. A cash grab.

Which is indicative of a larger problem in mainstream community. Marvel, Star Wars, the list goes on of lazy writing and even worse production. Writers have become more vapid, and while I am certainly no paragon of author peerlessness, I still have a better grasp on subtle nuances. Hell, many of the writers here do.

I think a large part of the problem is nepotism. People unqualified, or of questionable standards are getting an in because they know someone. Or even worse, they are popular in some genre that makes people think they might be good at something else.

I like this, I hope to see more think pieces like this.👍
