Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for tonight! This evening, I will be reviewing Disney’s Dinosaur from 2000! This was an animated Disney film I had very little memory of prior to my full viewing thereof recently. The first time I’ve seen this was back around late 2007 or so, and I had no recollection after that since it mattered very little to me at the time. But after watching this movie for the first time in years, I can safely say that it was truly a blast from the past…in a good way!

This movie shows us the story of a young Iguanodon dinosaur who is adopted by a family of lemurs. He helps his family and the families of his own species along with all the others to migrate and survive in the midst of a desert after a meteor struck down. Will they be able to find paradise and live their new lives in peace?

The CG animation was really good given that it’s from the year 2000; the way they made the dinosaurs and other creatures look so realistic was very impressive. Not to mention that the emotions and mannerisms were on-point…something that the Lion King 2019 remake failed to accomplish.

The voice acting was great, and the story was well-written in the simplest way possible. I especially liked the way the writers wrote the antagonists for the film. Kron was someone who was incredibly insecure about himself, yet he was so arrogant and selfish to ever concern himself with the lives of his own herd just for the sake of survival, especially the survival of the fittest. Although he isn’t a completely compelling villain, he was still a solid antagonist that served as a polar opposite of Aladar.

If there is one thing I wished they would have done for his character, it would be his redemption arc. He was killed off at the end without the slightest hint of a change of heart and without one final word to Aladar or to Neera when he was fighting off a Carnotaurus. It would have been better if he saw the error of his ways when he sees that Aladar was actually smarter than him in finding the way to save the herd from danger; if he just said these words, “It seems I was wrong about you.” or “Take care of the herd…for me..” right before he died, that would have been acceptable. But instead, he dies with no final word at all with no indication if he repented of his arrogance or not unlike his lieutenant who actually sacrificed himself earlier to save Aladar and the others.

But nonetheless, I enjoyed this film, the action, the story, and the characters. I will give this a solid 9/10! Props to Eric Leighton and Ralph Zondag for directing this underrated gem!

Peace!

I think one the main reasons why I love this movie is because it's part of my childhood and I just love dinosaur

“Dinosaur” was an all-time favorite of mine since childhood. Even today, I still remember this movie with fondness, and I often consider it one of Disney’s most groundbreaking and ambitious projects by far.

One of my many favorite movies since childhood.

I was looking forward so much to this review because I´ve had this movie since I was very very young. I have photos of me and my sister watching it when we were literally toddlers!

Last year while crotcheting, we rewatched this and boy what an underrated movie this is. I believe it depicts very well the struggle to survive, especially those who are not very strong, have disabilities or are simply elders, because society is so focused to survive that we forget to be solidary.

I agree with you with the breath-taking animation and how it´s more expressive than the Lion King remake. Seriously, this movie is 22 years old! Let that sink in. The characters and voice acting are also in point. I think you forgot to mention the music, it´s spectacular! My favourite piece would be when Aladar meets the herd.

I´m so glad to have watched this movie as a child, really
