Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with a special re-review tonight. This evening, I will be re-reviewing Warner Bros’ Space Jam: A New Legacy from last year. As some of you may remember, I did a highly-positive review of the movie exactly one year ago on the same date as I am writing this. At that time, I was blown away by the sheer colorful display of its CGI and animation along with the type of storyline they were going for. I loved it and thought it was flawless. Sadly, my admiration for the so-called “masterpiece” didn’t last long. Precisely 8 months later from the time I posted my review thereof, I watched it the second time to see its beautiful majesty. Then I fully realized the overall quality of the movie: it was shallow, obnoxious, shameless, horrible, and disgustingly over-the-top.

I don’t even want to restate my summery of the film. It is nothing more than a corporate advertisement of Warner Brothers with no heart and soul whatever. The main problem with this movie is that they had no shame in shoving every single franchise, series, and cartoon they own down our throats and on our faces saying, “Hey, kids, look! There’s Rick and Morty! There’s Scooby-Doo! There’s Batman! We own them! Hey, look at that franchise! We own that too! Get HBO Max to see them for $9.99 per month! Hey, did we forget to mention we own all these franchises you grew up with! LET’S PUT THEM ALL IN THIS FILM BECAUSE WHY NOT! LMAO!!”

Seriously, was it really necessary to visit every one of those worlds throughout the movie? It felt very distracting and basically brought the movie to a halt so that LeBron James and Bugs Bunny could waste time visiting these worlds to recruit his friends….who are in those worlds for…some reason. It was a blatant advertisement porn for no other reason than to make Warner Brothers stans jump and drool like how children do whenever they see keys or candy in front of them (no offense to anyone who enjoys content from WB).

Of course, I don’t need to emphasize LeBron James’s poor acting. We all know that deep down; the other thing is that this film had no issues with praising him which felt like narcissism from his part, considering how politically-aggressive he is and how many people hate him in real life. That what it felt like to me. And he isn’t a good voice actor either because his emotions, mannerisms, and tone of voice gave clear indications he didn’t try and didn’t give a shit about the project. He was lifeless and emotionless all the way through.

The comedy wasn’t funny, the pop culture references were unnecessary, the Micheal Jordon joke was tasteless, Al G Rhythm was a poorly-written villain with no background, motivation, or reasoning whatsoever, and it made no sense to involve both the characters from WB (who all acted OOC for some reason) and the humans to a basketball game to settle the ultimate challenge. It’s like it tried to copy the climax from the original and wanted to make it as flashy as possible without any real stakes at all. Bugs’ sacrifice was pointless and nonsensical, and I can go on and on.

But…I will still give credit where credit is due. I still like how the film at least tried to convey the message about following your dreams and always sticking to what makes you unique as a person. I liked the characterizations of the Looney Tunes, and Lola Bunny being treated and talked to like an actual person and not as a sex object. But that’s where the positives end.

Overall, this film means nothing to me anymore and is nothing more than an even dumber Space Jam movie than the original. Don’t get me wrong, the original film is NOT perfect by any means and it has a lot of issues too. Unlike this “sequel” however, the original had the decency to make it both fun, entertaining, and a classic without shoving its Warner Bros franchises down our throats. This film didn’t even do Justice to the title thereof; there was no space at all in this! It all took place in a computer which is not the same!

Therefore, the score is lowered from a 12/10 to a 2/10. But hey, if you love this movie, good for you! I’m happy you still find enjoyment in something that no longer appeals to me. Enjoy what you enjoy, and I won’t take that away from you guys.

Peace!

It was funny seeing Wilde try to do a Witness Me.

I will still like your original review though, Mr. J :)

Mainly because... heh.... I'm still keeping my high praise for of the sequel cause I still like the moral that remains my favorite: Be who you are. :)

But HEY! I thought your re-review was alright. :)

Just wondering though.... is this actually the first re-review you have done or have there been others prior?

I’ve actually done three other re-reviews prior. Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Suicide Squad (2016).

5674299
Ah alrighty =3 Just making sure. :)

I wonder if the wrestling spin-off with Dwayne Johnson might be better in your eyes?

5674301
I’m honestly not a fan of wrestling or Dwayne Johnson in general. Nonetheless, I’m still curious how they will pull it off.

That may be true, but…as a whole, the original film still felt like nothing more than an extended advertisement featuring Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes, and everything about it was incredibly lifeless and bland. Plus, Michael Jordan is obviously a great basketball player, but an actor…not so much.

5674336
Yes, I get it. No need to repeat it.

Personally, I would love for Warner Bros. to simply cancel on the idea. I'm a big fan of Dwayne Johnson’s work as an actor, but these sports-Looney Tunes hybrids don’t have any reason to exist at all.

Then don’t watch this shit movie. It’ll be a waste of your time.

Do you plan on re-reviewing the 2021 “Tom and Jerry” movie too?

This film didn’t even do Justice to the title thereof; there was no space at all in this! It all took place in a computer which is not the same!

...cyberspace? ...before I walk myself out of here, I'd like to say the original had - as much as one can for an elongated commercial - a little more heart than this...if only by virtue of Warner Bros not making cameos with what other properties they might've had at the time.

And perhaps along with the 'be yourself' moral, I wonder if some variation of 'have fun' was also part of it...least from my POV on the movie.

5674342
No. My opinion hasn’t changed on it.

5674347
Cyberspace isn’t the same as outer space. No matter how you word it, it didn’t do justice to the title. “Hey, let’s go to different franchises in a fucking computer because we gotta show how Warner Bros owns them! Yeah, baby, we’re super geniuses!”

5674374
...for someone who idolized the Joker, my bad humor via wordplay went over your head.

5674370
I was just wondering.

The last time we talked about it, you commented that the only thing you weren’t exactly impressed with was Chloe Grace Moretz’s performance as Kayla. And that you downgraded the film from 11/10 to 9/10.

5674398
Just drop it. I’m not in the mood right now.

5674400
I know that, I didn’t forget. A re-review happens if an opinion of a movie completely changes. That’s how it works for me.

5674398
Alright. I'm actually back here cause of the universe's sense of irony but I'll digress.
