PantheraMan

I do not consider myself a brony, but I like the show. I'm also passionate about animals, both living and extinct and I just like talking with other people about them and teaching about them.

T-Rex: The JP Franchises's Punching Bag · 10:20pm Jul 5th, 2022

[SPOILER WARNING FOR JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION For as long as people have known of their existence, dinosaurs have always captured our imaginations. From movies, books, models, museums, merchandise, and much more, dinosaurs have taken their steps into pretty much every part of the entertainment imaginable. They captivate us more than any other prehistoric animals have. For us, it's so crazy to think that there were once these gigantic animals alive at one point on land.

But no other dinosaur thing has captivated people more than the Jurassic stories. It all began with a man named Micheal Crichton who published his novel Jurassic Park in 1990. Then, 3 years later it was adapted into the movie many have come to know and love: Jurassic Park. When one sees the Tyrannosaurus Rex on screen for the first time, they look on in awe and maybe even terror at the effects and the mighty roar of the animal. Seven years later, the sequel called The Lost World: Jurassic Park came in and was basically a T-Rex movie. But lots of people loved the animal as it was something that many of them grew up with.

Then came Jurassic Park 3 and well...this happened.

When making the movie, the creators wanted something new to set it apart from the previous two movies, and when Jack Horner was consulted, he suggested the Spinosaurus be the new carnivorous dinosaur in the film and they decided to have it kill a T-Rex to make the point that this was the new big bad dinosaur if I remember correctly. This, however, didn't fare well for the fans as the defeat of an animal they grew up with angered them, and not only that but they were also angered by how quickly the Spinosaurus killed its opponent. Since then, many people have been wanting to see a rematch in the franchise and of course, there are those who don't want one, and it's become a back and forth thing and the fight has led to people arguing over who would really win in a fight between a Spinosaurus and T-Rex. (Good job JP3) However, this debate has been less popular due to more recent paleontological discoveries, at least when it comes to real life.

14 years later, Jurassic World is released and introduced the hybrid dinosaur called the Indominus Rex. At the very end of the movie, we get this fight scene.

And this fight scene was much better received by people than the one in JP3. But now, 7 years later, (yeesh time flies) Jurassic World: Dominion comes into theaters. Before the release of the film, however, a prologue was shown to audiences and in that prologue, this happened.

In the actual movie, however, the prologue wasn't even included and so now we see these two fight. But in all three of the fights, there's one thing in common: The T-Rex, the mascot of the franchise, loses by itself every time and in order to win it needs help.

Now in the I-Rex battle, it was different. Not only was the fight a good length, but it also brought deception, relief, and satisfaction. Deception because you get tricked into thinking the T-Rex will be killed, relief because we saw Blue wasn't dead, and satisfaction seeing the villain of the story getting defeated. Now let's look at why the other two fights didn't work.

1. The JP3 fight was simply too short. Same with the dominion battle.

2. The Giganotosaurus wasn't even a true villain. It doesn't kill one person in the whole film, it was just being a normal animal, and when it does get killed, many people actually felt bad for it.

With the possibility of there being even more movies in the future, if they want yet another fight with the T-Rex, this might be what they need to do.

1. Not introduce a new giant carnivore as being "bigger than the T-Rex" and having it fight it. That's beginning to get old. Instead, either don't have a fight or have a T-Rex fight a dinosaur it's already fought with, like a Spinosaurus. This brings me to my next point.

2. After having 3 fights with a T-Rex and having it lose by itself in each one, and planning more fights, at some point, you'll need to establish that a T-Rex won't lose every time against another giant carnivore.

3. After having a T-Rex defeat either a Spino or Giga, either leave it at that or if you plan yet another fight (as if more are needed) maybe have them team up to take down the antagonist.

I take it that you’re not a fan of the third “Jurassic World” movie, correct?

Not a huge one. I thought it was okay, but it could've been way better.

What if a T-Rex fought against its own kind? I mean, tyrannosaurs in general are known to have had squabbles amongst themselves to the point there would've been a fight to the death. Plus, they did occasionally commit cannibalism. So if they were to make a Jurassic spin-off trilogy, I'd say have a T-Rex that's like One-Eye from Speckles the Tarbosaurus be (one of) the villain(s) in the installment.

Well, I did read that Trevorrow was interested in releasing a director’s cut of the film at some point, most likely for home video release with the theatrical version. If I were to guess, that’d probably be what would come in the multi format or Blu-Ray release.
