Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing Disney's Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers of 2022! Now, I have honestly never seen the original show before seeing this movie, but I was still curious enough to watch it since it has a bunch of crossover characters from almost every universe. However, there was something about this movie that sort of made me...worried. Considering the fact that this is from Disney and that it is another meta, "parody" movie, I did not have high hopes for this one because other meta movies from the past did not sit well with me (like The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and Teen Titans GO! To the Movies!). So I decided to give this movie a watch with an open mind as usual. After seeing this movie.....I really didn't like it. There were a few moments and Easter eggs that I liked, but there was so much stuff I couldn't enjoy. But guess what? I decided to give it a second chance. Now that I have seen it for the second time, I no longer dislike the movie. I now hate it with a passion.

This movie is seemingly a continuation of the original series, but it is actually a meta/real life type of world just like with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Chip and Dale grew up as best friends in high school until they founded the Rescue Rangers together and lived many years together for their television series. Wanting to have his own spotlight, Dale gets a show of his own, forcing the show to be cancelled in the process. Upset, Chip parts ways with Dale and lives a life on his own. Years later, they are brought back together to solve a mystery that ties in to Sweet Pete. They must work together to put a stop to his schemes.

I literally felt my brain cells leaving me as I was typing the summery of this movie. What kind of a movie is this?? This clusterfuck is full of meta humor and commentary on modern remakes, reboots, and is filled with Easter eggs and references to franchises that aren't owned by Disney. Listen, I love crossovers as long as they are logical and are incredibly well-written. This "movie" is not one of them because it doesn't feel like a movie. It doesn't feel like a genuinely good story being told. It is a nostalgia bait that pretends to be self-aware of its own flaws and cliches. Let me make it clear to you guys: Just because this movie (or Disney for that matter) is self-aware with its jokes and cliches does not and should not excuse bad writing. IT DOESN'T MAKE IT BETTER. If I say something offensive or factually incorrect and people call me out for my error, my correct response should NOT be: "Yo bro, it's just a joke!! It's not meant to be taken seriously!! Calm down!!"

For example, Ugly Sonic is in this movie. Many people openly expressed their outrage over that hideous design in the first trailer to Paramount years ago which the latter instantly made corrections for. Now they decided to put that same disgusting piece of crap into this movie for the sole purpose of making fun of it. What's even worse is that they zoomed in to his lips and his face to emphasize how ugly he looks for shits and giggles. "Hey, kids, look! Remember how ugly this Sonic was? Let me shove it to your faces and just see how ugly it is! See? It's so ugly!! Let's zoom in on that because that's how disgusted we are with it!" Disney, please shut up and stop treating us like idiots.

The humor was painfully unfunny, most of the pop culture references were so repetitive and unnecessary, the voice acting was mediocre, and the plot was so badly written. It tried so hard to make me feel sympathetic for Chip and Dale, but the horrible story got in the way and made me wish the writers would just focus on what's supposed to be important. And I hated Seth Rogen's role in the movie. His Seth Rogen-filled cameo with the live action Pumbaa, B.O.B, and Mantis was insultingly annoying. Their CGI designs looked so awful and off-putting as well it made me want to look away from the screen.

Oh, and to add insult to injury, making Peter Pan/Sweet Pete the main villain was a low blow from Disney. They made his backstory similar to the real life backstory of his late voice actor from the original Peter Pan movie. If you don't know, please look it up. The late Bobby Driscoll had an unfortunate fate at the end of his life after what Disney did to him. I'll just leave it there. Anyway, I refuse to look at this version of Peter as the same one from 1953. In my opinion, the fact that they actually did this for the laughs says a lot about Disney as a whole. And of course, they brought one of my least favorite actors to voice him.

It felt like they made the cameos, Easters eggs, and non-Disney references just to make people feel smart which honestly distracts us from the story. A few references is good here and there, but not when they fill up the entire movie. And again, don't expect Disney to change after this. Just because they made a meta-crossover filled with commentary on overused story tropes and bland movies doesn't make their shitty writing any better. This movie is hot garbage, filled with poor acting, a lame plot, distracting cameos like Ugly Sonic, and an incredibly dumb premise. This gets a solid 3/10. The second score I would love to give is a GO FUCK YOURSELF/10. There were some references and cameos that I personally liked, but they weren't enough to save it from being a hypocritical pile of trash. But if you love this movie, more power to you. Different tastes, different opinions.

Peace.

What do you mean? The Lego movies are great! While the Teen Titans Go Movie is alright, at least it's better than the TTG's original series.

That's your opinion. Those particular Lego movies aren't my cup of tea.

Yep, totally agree. Glad that they FIXED it quickly for both Sonic movies. That's the real/realistic Sonic for me.

And I hated Seth Rogen's role in the movie. His Seth Rogen-filled cameo with the live action Pumbaa, B.O.B, and Mantis was insultingly annoying. Their CGI designs looked so awful and off-putting as well it made me want to look away from the screen.

Sorta have a mix bag for reading this. Because, I like Seth Rogen.

I actually don't want to talk much about this one. I'm still giving Disney a "WTF look" for what happened to the late Peter Pan voice actor back then. ( And it's after I watched the Chip N Dale movie, that I learned of this. Because of the rumors from YouTube. )

Aaaannnndddd, you don't like Will Arnett?

But if you love this movie, more power to you. Different tastes, different opinions.

Well, now that I think about it. I seen it long ago, and after reading your review. It's now a 50/50 on the love/hate for me.

P.S. What do you think of the original series?

5664685
I said at the beginning of this review that I haven't seen the original show yet. I would love to though; I'm sure it will take off the sour taste of this "film" off my mouth.

Also, I don't like Will Arnett as an actor, but I don't hate him as a person. That's all.

Haven´t seen this movie because when I saw the trailer I didn´t have a good feeling because of CGI Dale. And when I saw Sweet Pete... I was traumatised. And the fact that it mimicked Bobby Driscoll´s life it´s just disrespectful. Disney has a habit of ruining young stars´ mental health and lives. Plus, Older Peter Pan like this is just an old joke to this point.

Fun fact, Pluto was originally going to be the villain, but in the screen tests audiences didn´t like it and they had to change it in the last minute, which explains why Peter is the villain. Don´t know if you knew this.

5664691
Yeah, I already knew that. They also were thinking of bringing another cartoon as the main villain but they changed that too. Charlie Brown from The Peanuts. They dropped him to avoid paying for the character's licensing.

How would you have changed the movie to make it more better (besides "not making it to begin with")?

5664693

They also were thinking of bringing another cartoon as the main villain but they changed that too. Charlie Brown from The Peanuts. They dropped him to avoid paying for the character's licensing.

That and because having Charlie Brown become a villain would be really out of place for him.... right Mr. J?

5664710
The better question would be: why make this movie in the first place?

Why make a "comeback" to one of Disney's oldest cartoons and milk the shit out of it? Oh yes, because of this:

But if you have to make a film based on it, don't make it entirely meta and have that as a movie that apparently makes itself a continuation of the original series. Because that destroys the universe it is based on and makes it hard to watch the show, knowing how that it is all scripted and knowing what happens after. Make a movie that excludes all of that and make it centered on the Rescue Rangers facing a new enemy on a new adventure. Have it 2D animated and bring actually talented voice actors like Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, Jim Cummings, and more. Jim Cummings, Jeff Bennett, and Corey Burton were wasted in this film which is sad. They're some of my favorites, making this all the more hard to watch.

5664731
Well..... as a Peanuts fan myself (my dad is also a fan of that comic strip as well...), I obviously don't see Charlie Brown being the villain type. Mainly because of what he is personality wise as followed:

He is a meek, gentle, innocent, polite, and kind-hearted child

If they ended up having him be the main villain aka by removing what is said in the above quote, then there would be a lot and I mean a LOT of backlash for that.

Get what I mean though otherwise? :P

5664733
Well, I probably wouldn't have minded that, mostly because I am not a fan of that franchise and know very little of the character.

5664730
So for the last part you’d prefer if live-action actors stayed doing live-action, voice actors doing voices, comedians doing just comedy, and singers stay doing singing?

5664738
If one actor is great at doing both or more, then it's good. But if an actor or actress does a great job at acting but sucks at voice acting or singing, then we got a problem. Look at The Lion King remake as an example.

Competent voice direction is also crucially important. Even if you are a great voice actor, if you don't get proper voice direction, it will be sloppily executed.

And of course, they brought one of my least favorite actors to voice him.

Ironically, Will Arnett is actually what I personally classify as one of my favorite actors and comedians.

Then again, we both have different opinions on what performers we enjoy watching and which ones we don't like. For me, Ken Jeong is one performer that, while you enjoy, I personally consider to be a least favorite.

5664730
It’s amazing how similar our negative feelings and thoughts towards certain films are. Ironically, what you just said is exactly how I’ve felt with Warner Bros. creating “Space Jam” and Hasbro creating MLP (G5).

5665644
Yeah, man. We’re two sides of the same coin indeed.

literally the only fun part of the movie was the my little pony scene and the end credits
