Grettings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. As requested by my friend Akula966, I decided to take a look into this series for the first time as I have never seen this trilogy before. Since this is a comedy series, I thought it would be worth a shot to watch them one by one. After seeing this movie for the first time last night, I gotta say it was definitely an entertaining movie for sure. However, there were a lot of things in it that made me feel uncomfortable and made me cringe.

This is about a spy named Austin Powers from the 1960s who has been called to stop the nefarious Dr. Evil, now both living in the 1990s. After being unfrozen from over thirty years, Austin struggles to adapt to the new cultural lifestyle and has to work with Vanessa Kingsington. Things get spicey for them both as time goes on.

To be honest, I get that this is some wacky 1900s type of humor that actually fits with the culture and tone in which this movie is taking place, but there was an overabundance of sex jokes and dick jokes that would make Michael Bay jealous with a fury. Some of them were a little clever whereas most of them were not even subtle at all. Granted, there were a few moments here and there that made me laugh, but the humerous tone both felt forced and unfunny at best.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the performances of Mike Myers as both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil. That guy knows how to make his characters both hammy, hilarious, and wickedly enjoyable to watch (except for Cat in the Hat...yuck). Elizabeth Hurley was pretty good as Vanessa, and Seth Green did a good job of playing a young villain who is actually more practical and smarter than his dad. Still, I find it hilarious that Dr. Evil is very self-aware of his cliche-type of villainy. Now that made me laugh.

The acting was awesome, the visuals were great, the soundtrack was dope and well-composed, and the plot was pretty much straight forward. The thing that I got the most out of this film was the fact that Austin both had to learn how to adapt to the life the world has grown to and learn how to not be a simp but rather a charmer like how he always was. In that way, he could become the chick magnet...hopefully not literally. lol

Anyway, this was a pretty good comedy/spy movie, and I hope it gets better in the next two installments. I will give this a 7/10! Good entertainment, enjoyable story, but cringy over-the-top humor.

Peace!
