As months turn to years since the 2020 election I can’t help but worry we’ve only delayed America’s descent into authoritarianism by a few years.
There are seven major ideologies struggling for power on the world stage today. From left to right they are Tankie Socialism, Libertarian Socialism, Social Democracy, Liberalism, Libertarian Capitalism, Conservatism, Fascism. In America, the battle of politics has for most of living fought almost entirely between Liberalism and Conservatism with other ideologies forced to choose sides between the two. But in recent years Fascism and to an extent has largely overthrown conservatism's place. Now it should be made clear that Fascism doesn’t necessarily mean race-based Nazism. While this subset of Fascism still exists it is far from the predominant form. Fascism while not necessarily focused on the existence of a master race is by definition, intensely focused on the strength of the nation. Intense Nationalism focused on preserving an idealized culture. A rejection of ideas, people, items, and practices seen as opposed to that idealized culture. A view that there is a shadowy force that is pathetically weak and simultaneously the biggest threat the nation has ever faced. A rejection of international cooperation in favor of more protectionist policies. These are all hallmarks of Fascism and they permeate throughout today’s GOP. It was only natural for this to happen. The two-party system has left most fed up with the choice between Liberalism and Conservatism.
As a Libertarian Socialist myself I think the greatest failure of the left has been our inability to oust the Liberal domination of leftist politics the way the right has done with Conservatives. As such we are burdened with the label of establishment elites. A label our opponents have shed in the eyes of the people whether they’ve earned it or not. Therefore, the right can say and support whatever it wishes without losing popular support. The results are nothing short of nightmarish. Legalization of child marriage so long as said marriage is between one male and one female, banning educators from teaching anything that might contradict a student’s religious convictions, threatening to sic CPS on parents should their children decide to explore their gender identity, support for Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, these are just a few examples of what Republicans have endorsed in recent months. The insanity goes much further but to list everything would take too much time. Libertarians, Fascists, and Conservatives happily work together to reach their goals. Even the clear dominance of Fascist influence over their alliance does little to sway their cooperation.
What can we say about Leftist Unity? Nothing as it is nonexistent. The Liberals refuse to share even the slightest bit of power with others to their left. The Soc Dems rally around Bernie, but won’t accept any other candidate. The Tankies accuse everyone who steps a toe outside of their arbitrary and hypocritical Marxist-Leninist line, of Liberalism, Imperialism, and Fascism. The irony being that Tankies are far more willing to work with the far right than they are anyone else. We Libertarian Socialists are left helplessly watching as the Liberals scare off new blood, as infighting tares our communities apart, and as a united right stands poised to remove all legitimate means of opposing their establishment of an authoritarian state.
I have no idea what half of what you just said is because i dont live in the us
This is why Lenin’s legacy and the legacy of Communism will always survive into the generation that we became and we will try to pass it on when our time has come.
