    Check In

    Afternoon/evening folks!

Sorry I haven't been checking in as often as I should; rest assured I'm not dead, I'm still here, just been silent as of late. Still working on fics, but also constantly debating with myself on what to focus on next, wanted to make some new stuff that isn't just Shattered or Star Wars. Wanna bring more folks in, do somethin' new.

    Top Ten Films/Series Of 2023/Reflections

First off, Happy New Year's Eve everyone!

Hard to believe another year has passed, hasn't it? *sighs* how time has flown by. A lot's happened this year; more stories, more creativity and entertainment has come, and I've learned more about myself, and I am very glad for that.

Quickie Reviews Continued · 1:45am Nov 13th, 2021

Just to prove I'm not dead, I'm gonna provide some quickie reviews! I'll try to do fuller reviews and go a bit more in depth for stuff later in the future if I can simmer down, but for now, have some quick reviews!

Sixteen Candles

Um.... uh, oy. I... oh boy. Um... okay, let me get this out of the way. I love Ferris Bueller's Day Off, I had a blast with it, and I'm gonna watch it again. I enjoyed Breakfast Club despite how I wanted to blast my brains out from how depressing it was (which is it's point, so it nailed that). And I will happily watch Home Alone around Christmas time... but good god almighty I felt uncomfortable with this movie. Now look, no disrespect to the actors, they were all doing their jobs, and they all nailed the roles. Hell I liked our main character, I felt for her and honestly if I was back in high school, I would have liked to have been her friend. But dear lord, the uncomfortability levels that hit this movie just made me, ohhh... Let's just say some behaviors in this movie would NEVER fly by today, and for good reason. There's just things that are not okay and will NEVER be okay.

I may be a kook for the 80s... but shit like that, that happens in this movie? Hell no. This is not the nostalgia I'm fond of, this ain't okay. Hell, I don't remember if I remember this right (it's been a while since I saw the episode), but the Goldbergs did an episode with Sixteen Candles as the framing device, and even they called attention to how uncomfortable and not-okay some of the things in that movie were. I think? It's been a while.

But uh... yeah, no. I don't know what happened here, but I'm not really wanting to know. Moving on.

They Live

THEY... have taken control. THEY... have recruited the rich and the powerful. THEY... have been hidden among the populous for lord knows how long. THEY... are friggin terrifying.

I will admit, I am no expert on politics, nor am I some savant when it comes to every political, economical, or social activity that happens every day, or in previous time periods. I did however understand *some* things regarding this film, but just some. There's probably more underlying messaging in the film that I don't see, or really am not smart enough to pick up, but I watched this just to enjoy a sci-fi 80s flick. I got what I wanted, and I enjoyed it. I loved the ideas behind the glasses, I loved the aliens, I thought it was a pretty cool movie. Hell these aliens are smarter than most movie aliens, just naturally blending in with everyone else.

I've said it time and time again, I don't like politics in the slightest. And I have a feeling there were definitely political jabs in this movie, but if there were, I most likely missed them. I just had fun watching a sci-fi movie. And although I think it'll never happen, I am darkly curious as to what would follow up after that ending. What will become of humanity after that moment where the curtains are removed?

Free Guy

This movie came out earlier this year, and I wanted to see it in theaters badly. Sadly I could never bring myself to find a time cause I've unfortunately become lazy when it comes to my relaxing time. But when it finally came out on DVD, I picked it up and gave it a watch. That was a lot of fun, and I really needed it.

I love the universe created in this video game, especially all the little details within it that give it that vibe. From cars being changed colors, to avatars acting very glitchy and stilted, it makes it feel just like that, a video game. And I really dug our main character, Guy. He's just such a nice guy. Also loved some of the other characters/appearances, and I laughed hard when I watched this. I needed that.

I'm pretty sure this was intentional on their part, but the video game company in this movie... oh dear god. I swear it's like Konami, Bethesda, and EA all merged together to create this bizarre amalgamation of everything wrong in the gaming industry. And Taika Waititi... I love him, but I don't know, he didn't really make me laugh. I don't know if he was supposed to be more humorous here, but honestly I got more kicks out of him being IG-11 than this guy; again, he embodies soooo much of the bad ideals that we see repeated in some gaming companies that hit a little too close for me. But I still think he did a good job with the role he was given. I highly recommend giving this movie a watch, if only to see Ryan Renolds friggin' kick ass with Captain America's shield and a lightsaber. Jedi Knight Ryan Renolds, PLEASE!

And those are my quickie reviews for the night. I do wanna review Suicide Squad, but I gotta finish the entire movie first. Til then, hope you enjoyed this quick reviews, and hopefully I'll come out with an actual review. Might do Season 2 of Mandalorian or first season of Bad Batch in it's entirely, I dunno, we'll see. :scootangel:

Good set of reviews, Four. I'm particularly pleased that you enjoyed They Live.

Not bad not bad. I've always loved They Live personally. Excellent concept and good fight scene
