In Mykan's Canon, the old Equestria was destroyed along with the planet it was on.....and written badly.
As it is known, The Canon name for the planet Equestria is on is Equus (at lest the Pony name for the world is that), but when Mykan wrote his Starfleet Magic Stories, he thought the whole world was Equestria so he blew up the whole planet. This is not only terrible writing but a stupid idea.
In My Story. Starfleet: Rebellion, it will talk about how United Equestria came to be, not by the planet being blown up a la Krypton, but more of the nation and land of Equestria being destroyed viva Atlantis style disaster which will also explain the rebirth of the land as 'United Equestria'.
Basically, Mykan's version is messed up and a bad example of how to do an origin for one's fictional land.

Technically the name 'Equus' is fanon, not canon.
