Good evening, everyone! This is Mr. J with another movie review for this Disney Friday! Tonight, I will be reviewing the sequel to the first Cars film: Cars 2 from 2011. As I said in my Cars review, the first movie was both fun, entertaining, and enjoyable for it’s intriguing premise, hilarious concept, and for its nostalgia although not perfect. But when it comes to this movie in particular though.......it doesn’t fit into this series whatsoever. Cars 2 was an absolutely mediocre successor for its completely out-of-nowhere dark tone, the premise, and how out of place the story was for the most part. Who in the flying hell thought it was a great idea to make this a spy film? Who asked for that? We have come from a movie that is primarily about talking race cars and Lightning McQueen, but the filmmakers wanted to make the sequel a spy movie???

I’m not even kidding. This movie is a lot darker than the first one, and this is not something that even kids should sit through either. How is it that we went from a family-friendly fun predecessor to now a PG-13 type, unfunny adventure sequel? Why is this even rated G?

Do not get me started with how Mater was in all this mess. He was pretty much a tolerable character in the first one, but here... he was so over-the-top annoying thanks to the writers making him the main character this time. No, no, and no for a thousand times to that choice. Thank you very much.

While I admit that there were some fairly decent action scenes, the story and the premise could have been so much better. In fact, it would have been better if this film was actually about McQueen again as he is going through new adventures and challenges in his new home town he learned to adopt and still race in other parts of the world while having Francesco Bernoulli as the main antagonist. Much like Chick Hicks, he too could have provided a challenge to McQueen that would have made things more spicy and interesting.

But nope... let’s just make this a spy movie with ridiculous action scenes because that’s something that totally fits into this series that is actually more about race cars, right?

The humor was hit-and-miss, the majority of the characters were forgettable, the animation was great, the voice acting was solid, but the story was just stupid for my taste.

However, there were some characters I found to be at least decent such as Flint McMissile, Francesco, and Holley Shiftwell. I was surprised to learn that Michael Caine voiced McMissile and that John Turturro voiced Francesco. It really blew my mind. At least they were the only good parts of the movie.

Overall, this was both mediocre, disappointing, and fairly underwhelming which makes this a major step-down from the first movie. Wherefore, I give it 5/10.

Peace out!

It's been a while since I've seen this one, but I remember liking it, and if I ever do watch it again, I probably still will. At this point, it's safe to say I'm laid-back since most movies in franchises I love, I end up liking (though there are of course a few that I prefer less than others).

Yeah...Cars 2 was two movies cobbled together, wasn't it; thing is, I liked some of the spy stuff, particularly how they went about giving weapons and gadgets to the characters in this all-vehicle universe. So, if they made a spy thriller and set it in the Cars Universe, it might've worked out alright, philosophical quandaries about seeing Cars 'dying' notwithstanding.

Ha! My sister didn´t like it either when we watched it in the cinema. I myself like it, though I know it´s really bad compared to other pixar movies.

Talking about Pixar, have you watched Coco? If so, will you review it? You don´t have to if you don´t want to, I´m just curious.

They probably didn't think it through.

Well, I not a fan of cars 2. There are moments that i like in the movie

There’s a lot of problems with this movie, however, I’m gonna bring up the one that kinda sticks out the most: The fact that Mater is the main character. The reason this is an issue is because Mater is what you would call a comic relief character, and putting a comic relief character in the spotlight tends to get very grating, very fast. Most cartoons have problems doing it for one episode. Btw, this is why Planet Sheen was a flop. Rule of thumb for a spin-off: You are supposed to try and fix the flaws of the original. What you’re not supposed to do is add random extraneous crap. That and someone looked at Jimmy Neutron and said, “You know I really like Jimmy Neutron, but you know what it really needs? More Family Guy cutaway gags.”

I never liked it. Not only is it a bad idea to have Mater as the main character, but it's also an insult to injury to see him as an uncultured swine. I mean, mistaking wasabi for ice cream? Come on!
