A snag in the MLP:ANG movie? · 2:07pm Sep 29th, 2021
The song that is playing in the unicorn's dance contest is obviously a recording because there is no live band playing it, so we can rule out it being a "heartsong" (where a character spontaneously breaks out into a song that fits the current scene). Clips are played during the contest, and then the whole song plays during the credits.
The song is It's Alright and it's NOT by Ron Fair (who took Daniel Ingram's place, sadly), but it's a completely separate production. The credits say that the performer is Johnny Orlando and written by David Sneddon, Marco Parisi, and Giampaolo Parisi, and the record label is Universal Music Canada (separate from E One and Boulder Media, who had to get permission from UMC to use it).
First, the practical questions:
Was the song specifically produced for the movie? IMDB says that it was produced this year, but not much else. Wikipedia just says it's a single and not part of a full album.
If it was, does that mean that Johnny Orlando is a brony?
And the MLP questions:
What device was being used to play the song?
The song is not pony-specific, nor is it a parody nor a pony-version of a non-Hasbro related song, so how did it come to exist in the MLP universe?
If the song was produced specifically for the movie, does that mean that there a pony version of Johnny Orlando in that MLP time frame?
If the song was NOT produced specifically for the movie, then just HOW did the unicorns get that recording?
