Let's Talk About MLP A New Generation · 4:13pm Sep 25th, 2021
Things have been kind of slow lately in terms of me dishing out content I'm actually working on 3 stories all will have 7 chapters. When those are done I'm finally getting back to work on Super Stallion as well as a new idea. But while you're waiting I thought I'd give my opinion on MLP generation 5 seeing how I saw it today, I saw the movie and I like Fluttershy could say it best.
It was, nice.
The movie focuses on a female earth pony named Sunny Starscout she and her father live with other earth ponies because the 3 tribes have been separated and want nothing to do with each other. However Sunny and her father who quickly dies of offscreen disease think that they can become friends once again, then one day a unicorn name Izzy Moonbow arrives in town, what was she doing? That's a part I won't give away but honestly it's a nice touch. Shortly after Izzy arrives she leaves with Sunny to see the Pegasus because Unicorns have lost their magic and Sunny thinks maybe they know what happened, however when they get there Pegasus can no longer fly but Sunny learns there just might be a way to bring all the magic back so she, Izzy and several other characters head out to do that. So basically it's sort of a road trip movie the characters come across something unusual they interact off it and then move on to the next thing.
When I heard about this movie and the whole tribe separated thing I was hoping this wouldn't be in the same world as Friendship is Magic, otherwise that would have screwed up all of Twilight's work. Speaking of Twilight I was told she would be off limits so to speak which is weird because she's right at the start, but you find out it's just young ponies playing with toys. Over all I think this movie is a decent film but not a whole lot really stands out about it, for example the 1st song was pretty energetic it actually got me tapping my foot but the other some not so much. The animation is decent but really I'm not a big fan of CGI, don't get me wrong yeah it's come a long way but hand drawn animation just has this personal touch you can't seem to capture with a computer. The characters themselves are likeable and fun but at the same time and again they don't really stand out, at least not all that much, plus I thought they were kind of cookie cutter.
If it sounds like I'm giving this movie a hard time I'm really not there are a few things that I liked, I liked that we see where the Earth ponies, Pegasus, and Unicorns live nice world building. Also some of the jokes are pretty good too like when they visit the Unicorns we learn they do a dance to avoid bad luck when they here forbidden words like magic or mayonnaise, or a character Pipp Petals princess of the Pegasus (wow say that 10 times fast) has a lot of followers called Pipsqueaks. (I love puns) It's also nice to see quite a lot of modern technology like camera phones or elevators or this giant metal pony we see in the climate. Which is another thing I liked the guy using it isn't a bad guy here's just a kind of a control freak whose mother kind of gave me Dolores Umbridge vibes, the villain is fear and prejudice which connects to the movie's theme about unity and friendship like Generation 4 which is a good message, kind of like Raya, only here it's less bullcrudy. All in all I liked this movie but I didn't love it, for anyone curious about the movie I do recommend it just don't compare it to Friendship is Magic because this movie is just kind of it's own thing.
I think this movie is also getting a tv show I'm kind of curious to see where Gen 5 goes from here are any of you? Did you see the movie if so what did you think? Tell me what you thought about it in the comment section.
