All things must come to an end, good or bad. · 2:57pm Jun 22nd, 2021
So it's recently been announced that IDW will be bringing the ongoing My Little Pony series to an end after one hundred and two issues. They'll still be producing MLP content, including a crossover series between G4 and G1, but the mainline series is almost at an end.
The comics have had their ups and downs, I'll be the first to admit, and I'm glad to see an endpoint come from a storytelling perspective, but I will be sad to see the storyline end.
If they throw in Tales and G3, we'd have something like the Pony POV Series in a official capacity...
Interesting news. In some ways, yeah, sad to see it come to an end, but on the other hand, better than to try and wring blood from a stone, or whatever you'd like to call it.

And the fandom would complain that the fandom did it better.

My thoughts exactly, though I do wish we could've gotten more stories in the comics involving the Student Six and/or Starlight Glimmer.
I've yet to read any of the comics to be honest. Mostly because comics are my least favorite medium. Imagine watching a movie where every scene is broken up into a small number of pictures relative to the length of the scene. For me that leaves just too much blank space to really keep me interested in the narrative. That said comics require a lot of skill to do so I have a massive amount of respect for those that work on them in any way.
While I have not read the comics I am fully aware of the impact that they have brought to the universe. Partially thanks to you Echo and partially thanks to other sources. Some things that have come out of them certainly are interesting while others are decidedly less so. Regardless, it is the last official* G4 storytelling and it is being brought to a close. This, to me, is the true ending of G4. I'd like to read them all one day but I suspect that will never happen.
* Some don't see it as official for given reasons while others do. My opinion? Hasbro gave them the ok to publish it and publish it under trademark. That is good enough for me to call it official.

I have nothing against those who choose not to read comics. We're all allowed our personal preferences, after all.
The comics, like the show itself, can and will vary in quality. Some stories are better than others, for one reason or another, and I'd argue that some things in the comics are better than what the show gave us - I can't be the only one who prefers the comic's tragic villain version of Sombra to the one-dimensional (albeit very smart and entertaining) Generic Evil Overlord that we got in the show. And you're right, they were very much official in that they were licensed by Hasbro. Their status in canon is, of course, an entirely different matter.
As for you reading them all one day, well, there's always a chance.
