PPA Announcement (It’s been a while)

Okay, so, I had been looking back on Papers Ponies and Attitude… and I’m not gonna lie, to me, it did not age that well. However, I’m still somewhat proud of it. That being said… I want to delete a few chapters. I think one person said it best in the comment section in the last chapter of the second arc: This is a good posit to end. And it was.

    Waking Up

I jolt awake as I yell in surprise, sweat pouring down my back and neck as I look around wildly.

“Oh God, how long have I been asleep for!?” I ask myself as I scramble for my phone. I check the month and see it’s April. “ah… okay, a few months, that’s… not too bad-“ I then see the year. “… Damn, no wonder that nap was so good.”

Isolated Room (short vent story. Trigger warning: depressing)

The walls surrounding me mock in shadowy jeers. I stare at the ceiling in my arm chair, feeling my face slide down more and more as I grow tired. I’m always tired. My shoulders feel disconnected, my muscles are reluctant to move, the constant crawling of invisible insects haunt my skin. A pit sits in my stomach as the mockery of production continues. The days slipped by since I have last slept

    Short: staying alive

A silent room is suddenly woken up as a familiar figure walks in. The room is mostly empty, with a desk and chair in one corner. A computer sits on top of the desk, which comes to life from the push a button. With that, the man sits in his chair, and sighs.

So... it's been a while. Almost ten months. Where have I been? That's a good question.

Pokémon Type Tier list · 5:23pm Apr 22nd, 2021

Okay, so, I wanted to do this because... why not. Of course, these are all opinions.

Beep

So, here are the tiers we’re working with:

S TIER
A Tier
B Tier
C tier
Eh tier
I’d-Rather-Shoot-Myself tier

So first off- fuck fairy types. IRSM tier, right off the bat.

“Oh, you just don’t like them because you’re a gen wunner “

... Well, I mean, you’re not wrong, but also not right. I haven’t been with Pokémon since Generation 1 came out, but Fire Red was still a pretty good introduction. The only reason I don’t like fairy types, is because I can never remember what a fairy type is weak against or strong against. They’re strong against dragon types, dark types, and fighting types, but are weak to- get this- poison and steel types. That just doesn’t really make sense to me, and it feels like they only added Fairy types to balance something that didn’t need balancing.

I’m going ABC order for types, so the real first one is Bug type. Bug type is... okay... I’d put it in the C tier. Like, they have some awesome looking Pokémon, and I can’t ignore Golisopod, which in all frankness, translates to big ass rolly-polly. However, I just don’t like bug type Pokémon. Yet again though, they do have some cool designs. So, C Tier it is.

Next type is Dark Type. I’mma put it iiiiiiiiiiiiiin A tier. I actually love most dark type Pokémon, and most of the time, when I’m making a diverse team, there’s always a dark type somewhere in the mix. They’re good against psychic and ghost type, and are weak to fighting, bug and.... fucking fairies.

The next type is Dragon type. The mighty- terrifying- HEART STOPI-
C tier. I think their designs are normally cool, and I like how different they are for each region. However, the fact that a fucking blue cloud ostrich is a dragon type, and the orange, fire breathing, bipedal DRAGON isn’t a dragon type just pisses me off. And that’s not to mention the type advantages. Like- really? Dragon type moves are only effective against OTHER dragon types!? Like- why not ground types or rock types?! And, get this, dragon types are weak to other dragons, ice types, and- FUCKING FAIRIES- GOD FUCKING DAMMIT-

Electric types, I’d put in S Tier. I just like Electric types. Zekrom and Zapdos are my favorite legendaries, and I love most of the electric types Pokémon designs! Although I don’t particularly use them much, I always make sure to catch at least one. I particularly like how electric type advantages and disadvantages are very intuitive, like lightning strikes birds, and electricity conducts well to water. Ground types are stronger to electric types, while grass type have a sort of slight resistance, though no clear advantage. All in all, I love electric types, and I try to implement them as much as possible whenever I play any Pokémon game.

Next up is... Fighting type. I put them in A Tier. They generally have pretty cool designs, and I normally have one in a team due to their usefulness and wide variety of advantages, but I am a bit confused by their weaknesses. First, there’s Psychic type, which actually makes sense, mind over matter and all, but the other two confuse me. Why Fairy type? Is it like- because fairies have magic? I dunno. But the other one- FLYING TYPE!?!? WHY!?!? A karate master being terrified of birds just confuses me to no fucking end. But hey! Fighting types are still really cool, really useful, and I always need one on my team.

Funnily enough, when I was a kid, Fire types were my favorite, but looking at them now, I’m just kinda... they’re all right, I give ‘em B Tier. They’re useful, no doubt, but I don’t particularly like some of their designs. There are some gems to be sure, but I’m kinda mixed about it. I’ll only put them on my team if I need to. They’re strong against Steel, Grass, Bug, and Ice, which makes sense. They’re weak to other Fire types, rock, water, and dragon. All of this makes sense.

Flying types are C tier. I only collect a flying type because of three reasons. One, they used to be used for quick travel. Two, they have decent advantages. Three, it’s out of habit more than anything else. I always call the first flying type I catch “Feathers”. They’re strong against fighting, bug, and grass, and weak to steel, rock, and electric.

Oh, ghost types? B tier. I only love a small number of them specifically, but I will say they are normally cool as fuck, and have very few weaknesses but equally as few strengths. Weaknesses are Ghost and Dark type. They are strong against psychic types. I generally like them though, so they’re a step above C tier.

Grass types are.... they exist. They certainly have good designs, but I just don’t like using them, aside from Nuzleaf and two other exceptions. Grass is strong against water, rock, and ground, but weak to Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, and Poison. They Eh Tier.

I actually like ground types. they’re A tier. Cool designs, I normally have one on my team, good against Electric, fire, poison, rock, and steel types (which kind of makes sense), and only weak to grass, ice, and water types. I don’t go looking for them though, but I will always somehow have one lying around.

Ice types. They’re neat. I give them B tier. Normally some nice designs, but they’re normally not that strong (aside from a few exceptions), but they’re still really good for birds, dragons, grass, and ground type. Although weak to fire, water, steel, and other ice types, they’re like an occasional trump card.

Normal types are B tier. A few good ones, a few meh and forgettable ones, but a sort of “if nothing else works, this is a desperate attempt” kind of pokemon. Strong against nothing, but are only weak to Steel, rock, and ghost type Pokémon. Their saving grace from Meh and C tier, is because they can normally learn a variety of moves, and they’re normally able to dish out a decent amount of damage one way or another. They might be boring, but they’re not usually weak... Dunsaprce- anyway-

Poison. Meh Tier. They’re usually pretty weak, have a wide buffet of weaknesses, and although they look cool, they are rarely ever used in my team. I like poison types, as like, maybe support Pokémon, but I rarely ever use them for fighting. They’re strong against grass and fairy types, which might’ve put it into C tier, but then their weaknesses are just stacked. They’re weak to other poisons, ground, rock, steel, and ghost types. Paired with the fact that they’re normally not that strong, I’m just disinterested in using them at all.

Psychic types are great, A Tier. They’re cool, they’re normally useful, and I get excited whenever I find one I can use. They’re strong against fighting and poison types, but weak to dark, steel, and other psychic types. They’re still great to use.

Rock types... I’d rather shoot myself. That’s right fairy types! You have a buddy. Rock types aren’t bad or anything, and although they have some pretty good designs, I just don’t like rock types. They feel like discount ground types, if that makes sense. They’re good against bug, flying, fire, and ice, but weak to fighting, grass, ground, steel and water. Fuck rock types.

Steel types? Top of B tier. They’re usually tanky and deal a good amount of damage. They’re also really cool too. The only reason they aren’t A tier, is because they’re normally slow, in my experience. They’re strong against fairy, ice, and rock types, but weak to fighting, fire and ground. Hell, even against their weaknesses, they can normally take a hit.

Last, but not least, water types. S tier, below electric types. Yet again, I just like water types, which may not be the strongest, but they tend to look awesome, they’re usually pretty quick, and I normally use them for smarter and graceful plays. They’re strong against fire, ground, ice, and rock, but weak to electricity and grass. It feels like water types have fewer weaknesses than most other types.

So, let’s review the list.

S TIER: Electric, Water
A Tier: Dark, Fighting, Ground, Psychic
B Tier: Steel, Fire, Ice, Ghost, Normal
C tier: Bug, Flying, Dragon
Eh tier: Grass, Poison
I’d-Rather-Shoot-Myself tier: Rock, Fairy

And there you go.

You clearly know nothing about the fae; a quick Google search for "cold iron" will quickly tell you why they're weak to Steel.

Rock-type attacks are also noticeably inaccurate; Stone Edge gets all the press, but Rock Slide would still be mediocre even if it didn't have that chance of whiffing completely and it's still the next best thing Rock has.

Eh, it does explain a lot, but for the longest time, type matchups were normally based around logic and reasoning. For instance, grass has a resistance to electricity, but isn’t strong against electricity, because plants are connected to the ground, where the electrical current would go.

However, I probably should’ve realized that dragons kind of don’t exist either, so oh well.

Also, several of Bug's matchups require you to understand that Kamen Rider exists. This is a complete nonissue for the original Japanese audience, but...

As for fighting being weak to fyling, I don't think it's because they're scare more just... you cant exactly punch or kick something 50 feet *above* you.
