Greetings, everyone. I am back to reviewing yet another Disney Pixar film which is actually a sequel to the original film The Incredibles. I bring to you The Incredibles 2! If I am being honest with you all in regards to this, I actually thought this was really good and enjoyable. It’s really not as terrible as some people make it out to be, but I do think it could have been better. Allow me to state my positives before I go on to the negatives.

First off, I actually thought it was awesome to give Helen Parr the spotlight for this movie. She was still an enjoyable character as she was from the first movie; plus, the writers still kept her as the same energetic, courageous, smart, and interesting heroine even as the protagonist. Holly Hunter had a lot of fun and a great time reprising her role as Elastigirl and truly did her absolute best performance as the said character. I noticed how her hairstyle is different in this movie in contrast to her previous one. I like her first hair style more.

Mr. Incredible was also very good in this film. We actually get to see him doing things that a mother/wife usually does at home... huh, that’s a bit strange... but intriguing nonetheless. I never thought I would see him spend that amount of time with the kids especially with Jack-Jack. A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.

That intense scene between Jack-Jack and that random raccoon was so funny. A part of me was thankful he didn’t vaporize that poor furry thief while the other part of me kept rooting for the baby to go on... I don’t know why. Lol
So yeah, that’s just one of the examples of how well they rightly executed the humor and comedy throughout the movie. Well done, Brad Bird.

The action scenes were very eye-catching and well animated. It contains the same passion and heart from the first movie, and it raised the stakes quite high such as the climax sequence. The character development was really done well which made me root for all the assembled heroes to work together to stop the rising threat. I didn’t particularly like all of them or find them interesting to say the least, but they were mostly okay to be passable. Frozone was still as awesome as always. Keep being fantastic, Sam Jackson!

As for the negatives, I must say that I was a bit disappointed that the Underminer was not the main villain of this movie. Remember the unexpected cliffhanger from the original? That made so many people including myself eager to see what happened with them and with the new villain. Although there was a video game called The Rise of the Underminer, it still doesn’t feel the same. He was only at the beginning for about four minutes of screen time until he got away unscathed. All that hype was for nothing, and we never see him again.

Also, how come the heroes were still illegal in all this? They literally saved the city from destruction and destroyed the rampaging omni-droid, yet they’re still outlaws? Am I missing something?

Lastly, the ScreenSlaver was a decent villainess at best although she wasn’t as good as Syndrome. The plot twist around her was well thought out and all, but she barely made any sort of impression on me. It wasn’t like, “Ah, I want to see more of her character!” type of thing. To me, she is a little forgettable.

Lastly, the tone and language in this movie is not suitable for children. I didn’t expect the characters to utter words of profanity such as “crap”, “hell”, or “damn” (although “hell” is barely a curse word but still inappropriate depending on the use of the word). I get they were trying to appeal to an older audience, but they should have at least made it MUCH more clear that this isn’t exactly a kids movie. It’s no wonder this is rated PG. I don’t mind the language, but... yikes.

Overall, this was really good but not as great and memorable as the original. It gets an 8/10.

Peace!

I liked the costume and voice of the fake ScreenSlaver. Probably why he’s one of my favorite characters in the Lego Incredibles game (that I haven’t played in years)

I found ScreenSlaver pathetic, like Lotso.

Plus, more Mrs. Incredible thicc-ness!

Also, how come the heroes were still illegal in all this? They literally saved the city from destruction and destroyed the rampaging omni-droid, yet they’re still outlaws? Am I missing something?

I suppose that, in their world, it takes more than just saving a city from a giant robot to help superheroes be legal again. There are many powerful people who actually manage to influence another into doing the wrong thing, and I think that’s a big reflection of the world we live in today.
