I do not consider myself a brony, but I like the show. I'm also passionate about animals, both living and extinct and I just like talking with other people about them and teaching about them.

Black Bear vs Wild Hog · 7:52pm Mar 26th, 2021

Now, this is something you don't see every day. Especially since 95% of a black bear's diet consists of plant matter. Now that the bears are emerging from hibernation they're hungry and will eat whatever's available to them, and in this case, a wild hog is this bear's choice.

For anyone not very familiar, wild hogs are the most destructive invasive species in the United States and they number in the millions, now occupying about 39 states and a few Canadian provinces. Each year they do massive damage to crops and the ecosystems when they root through the soil and devour whatever they find. Hunting by humans is the most common method to control them, but that's backfired since people ended up loving pursuing them so much that they transport them to new areas to increase hunting opportunities, and people make money from hog hunts (typical), and now it's gotten to the point where we won't be able to completely get rid of them. With that in mind, natural predation by native predators appears to be one of the best solutions.

The way this bear deals with the hog to many seems gruesome, but bears have to eat meat, and sometimes killing something is the only way they can do it. Killing other animals is how predators make a living and predation is as much of a biological thing as is grazing on grass.
