Pepe Le Pew is cancelled · 2:12pm Mar 15th, 2021
It has been reported that Pepe Le Pew will not make an appearance in Space Jam: A New Legacy. I've been critical about his characterization and antics for several years, so for this to come to fruition is music to my ears. A symbolization of sexual harassment and rape culture like him is no longer fit in today's climate.
Additionally, Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam no longer carry guns in response to gun violence in the US.
To be perfectly and a little bluntly honest.
Pepe le Pew was not a symbol of rape culture and didn't even glorify it. I look deeper in cartoons from time to time, but not this far.
He never got his way with Penelope
He always got hurt
There was a time when the tables were turned.
Evidently there's a scene in the movie which was removed due to Pepe being told by LeBron "dude, no means no." Which if Pepe did represent rape culture or at worst a stalker, seems a bit to defeat the purpose.
Now, I know he's not "cancelled" per se because he'll appear on merchandise.
But, it's just a cartoon character, kids grew up watching him and never became like him.
To me if anything, he's a streotype of the French on how everyone sees them as lovey dovey.
But I will admit to each their own.
It just seems to me, the more this goes on, the more things will suffer.
People could start saying that Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry promote animal abuse.
People could say the Smurfs represent the Klan because they all where white and are led by one who wears red.

To be fair, some aspects of Tom and Jerry are a product of their time, and as a consequence feel a bit dated. I have a similar challenge when defending sitcoms like It ain't Half Hot, Mum, which (amongst other things) cast a white actor (although born in India) as an Indian character. However, the show was always careful not to veer off into offensive territory, and in the white-dominated world of 1970s television, it was one of the few shows where non-White actors could regularly find good work.

I can't say I ever heard of that sitcom, and I love learning about old sitcoms.
I love the facts of life(I prefer the episodes with Jo)
I also love M*A*S*H and my mom got me into Barney Miller.
I'll have to look into that sitcom someday

It has a lot in common with MASH, although MASH has a much darker tone.

Yeah it does.
Saddest episodes for me is when Henry died and when Radar went home.
Though the Radar one was happy/sad.
And I love the war is war and hell is hell quote

Fantastic series, although I doubt it would be made today.
5476027
Probably not

Oh well. "Cry not because it is gone, smile because it happened."

Yeah, I just wish there were other reasons like time. But oh well, I just hope it doesn't get to the point where were always walking on eggshells.

MLP took some risks, too. Lauren Faust commented getting some of the scripts approved was a challenge.

I bet.
I'd love to hear those stories.

It was over the use of words as mild as 'bummer'.
5476054
Ah. I do know some, like cider and stuff like that

Hence why Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 and Where the Apple Lies were never aired in Britain. It sucks being a British Brony sometimes...
