Story Opportunities · 9:03pm Mar 5th, 2021

Some things I’ve wondered about that could be used as opportunities for interesting events in stories.

  • Did Twilight ever stop using the “watch” to control the Sun and the Moon and if so, what led to the change?
  • What led to Twilight growing to be Celestia sized. Does it happen gradually or all at once and why?
  • Did Twilight finally talk to Harmony (the spirit of the Tree of Harmony) and if so, what led to the encounter and what happened?
  • What led to Flurry Heart getting her Cutie Mark? What is it and what does it symbolize?
  • What led to Flurry Heart finding out what she is the princess of? What is she princess of?
  • Did Shining Armor, Cadence, Flurry Heart, Starlight, Trixie, Sunburst, and/or any of the CMC or Student 6 ever get a pet? If so, what did they get and how do they interact with them?
  • Did Spike ever encounter a grown up Pee Wee the phoenix? If so, what led to the encounter and what happened?
  • What is the next stage in the life cycle of the Ursa Minor? How does it interact with others or the environment when it, or the Ursa Major, comes out of the cave?
  • What happened to the Mane 6 while they were “Rainbow Powered”?

If anyone has recommendations for stories that cover any of these events, please leave a comment so I can thank the author and check out the story!

What events would you like to see portrayed in stories?

I believe that the watch was only a temporary thing for Twilight. That she would eventually absorb the magic it contained, and be able to do the sun and moon without it.

Seeing as the Tree took Twilight's look, I say they did. Fill in the blanks from there.

I'd like to think her growth was gradual. Being a goddess has its perks.

No comment on the rest.

Agreed that the watch was a temporary thing. It just seems like i would be a cool event in a story to see Twilight control the sun and moon with her own power after absorbing the watch's power or outgrowing the need for it. Maybe Starswirl could train Twilight! He did used to help unicorns control the sun and moon.

I also lean toward Twilight's the gradual growth, but an event that triggered the growth, possibly in conjunction with having the power to control the sun and moon without the watch, would be very dramatic!

I'm pretty sure Twilight was not moving the celestial bodies at all by The Last Problem. When the sun set behind her and her friends during the last group shot, her horn was not lit.

"Did Twilight finally talk to Harmony (the spirit of the Tree of Harmony) and if so, what led to the encounter and what happened?"
Pretty sure Uprooted established definitively that only the Young Six were worthy of being in the spirit's presence.

I had missed that! Thanks for pointing it out.

Twilight not controlling the sun and moon opens up new story opportunities for how either someone else is controlling them or how the mechanics of the sun and moon were changed so they raise and set on their own. Both could be dramatic stories.

Good point. Though a character's "worthiness" can change.

For example, Luna and Celestia wielded the Elements of Harmony until they both became "unworthy". Twilight had to become "worthy" to wield the Element of Magic in "Friendship is Magic Parts 1 & 2".

Based on this history, it stands to reason that Twilight and/or her friends could become worthy of meeting the spirit of Harmony, and that could be a dramatic story.
