Hey, guys. Today, I will be reviewing the 2011 film called Thor. Now, to make something clear, I am not a fan of Thor although I do like him as a major character in this series especially as one of the major protagonists in the Avengers series. I honestly like his personality and how he developed as a character throughout these films in which he was featured as wonderfully portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, but when it comes to his own first movie here... well, not so much. This film had its moments, and there were a lot of good elements therein. Nonetheless, I am afraid to say that this movie failed to meet my expectations. To put it short, this was overall... boring.

I have nothing much to say in regards to the soundtrack or the story. The story was boring and all over the place as it has many scenes midway that had certain comedic moments and then just instantly cut to the next scene like it did not matter. For instance, when Thor was having breakfast with Jane Foster and her associates (oh, I will talk about them in a moment), right after he slams the cup of coffee to the floor and demands for more and chats with her, it then just cut to the next scene with S.H.I.E.L.D. I mean, first of all, that was clearly not funny and, second of all, we barely spend enough time with Thor getting adapted to the human world. It honestly felt like the days he spend with them were rushed with no time for character development. It felt like it was more plot-driven than it was character-driven.

Now, as for the human characters in this movie—Jane Foster and her coworkers—they were the worst parts of the film for me. Especially that Darcy character... she was so irritating to watch that made me groan internally. Jane was honestly no better; of course, she is played by Natalie Portman. To be frank, I do not like her acting at all. I don’t like the characters she often portrays like Padme from Revenge of the Sith for example. Those love story-driven characters that causes internal conflict for the hero really bores me to death. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t like Rachel from The Dark Knight, M.J. from The Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy, and so forth. If you like them, good for you. We all have different opinions and tastes.

Anyway, the human element is what ruined this film for me just how like some of the human characters have done in Michael Bay’s Transformers films.

As for Loki, I actually found him decent in this one. Tom Hiddleston did a good job portraying the deceitful, patient, sympathetic, and later on vengeful Loki. I don’t care at all about the Frost Giants because they were boring villains to begin with. Loki was what mattered. Great acting and awesome character change.

Anthony Hopkins was actually amazing in this movie. His Odin character was very compelling, authoritative, emphatic, powerful, and, might I add, even hilarious. I loved the part where he muttered some lines of dialogue to Thor and Loki respectively such as:

Thor: Father, we’ll finish them together!! :D

Odin: *Whispers* Silence.

Thor: *Visible Confusion*

Loki: Father...

Odin: HAAAARUUHHH!!

Loki: 😳

Those scenes literally made me laugh out loud. The dialogue between Odin, Thor, and Loki was perfection. Anthony Hopkins was the perfect choice for Odin in these films.

The cinematography is excellent, the CGI is awesome, and the character design is splendid, but the story is lackluster at best although the action is good and passable. Despite the decent acting and those good elements I mentioned, this film gets a massive lightning bolt of 4/10.

Peace ✌🏼

I'm proud of you, buddy.

Not to sound rude, but you’re proud of me for what?

:applejackconfused:

Honestly, this is one of the most underrated MCU films, in my opinion. Sure, most of the scenes on Earth are dull and the human characters are annoying at times, but I think there is enough good stuff that makes this a solid superhero film for me.

The actors are all great, the action sequences are fantastic, the CGI is gorgeous, Thor is a really likable hero, and Loki is a very compelling villain. This may be not the best story they could've crafted with the source material, but it's far from terrible. I give it a score of 8/10.

Plus, it's a lot better than Thor: The Dark World

Well, your clearly a DC fan, but your giving Marvel a try. Not many people try and get out of their comfort zones.

Wanna know something? I don't think you did the first Captain America.

5466053
Ever plan to do it? To cap off all Cap films?

(Lol, look at me, making puns)

5466061
Decent pun, I guess...

Later in the spring, yes.

5466084
Eh, I’ve done better anyway

5466093
So what do you think of this movie?

I see. Well, thanks for the kind words you said earlier.

What do you think of this movie?

It's a good movie to watch. Hope you have Pokemon movies on your review list.

5466223
I don’t like Pokemon. I’ve never been a fan of it.

Sorry, bud.

5466230
It's cool. Appropriate the honesty.

5466113
Haven’t seen it, actually.

5466526
